My New Friend

"Perry," Larry called and Perry realized this was not the first time.

"My apologies. Hello, Larry."

"What in the world were you thinking about that you couldn't hear me?" he asked in wonder as he set his coffee on his desk.

"My new friend."

Larry's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "What?! You talked to somebody else?"

"No. I have not disobeyed your orders. But yesterday she was the only one who did not yell at me aside from you while things were down. She told me that she knew I was doing my best and that everyone needed maintenance sometimes," Perry informed him.

"That's nice of her. Must be the type who apologizes when knocking over inanimate objects and buys bruised fruit and battered boxes or cans at the grocery store because she's afraid no one else will want them. My ex-wife was like that."

Larry did not often speak well of his ex-wife. Did that mean Noelle was bad if she was like her?

"Is that a bad thing?"
