That's What Friends Do, Right?

Callie was surprised to find breakfast takeout already on the table when she woke up the morning of her twenty-fourth birthday. She looked to Adam questioningly and he said that she shouldn't have to cook on her birthday so today was a takeout day.

A lump formed in her throat. He was really going all out on this birthday thing, wasn't he? Maybe she shouldn't get herself a cupcake in case he decided to get her a cake.

"Happy birthday, Mommy!" Carter cried as he flung himself at her.

She smiled and hugged him back tightly. "Thanks, baby. And thanks for breakfast, Adam. I really appreciate it."

"You're welcome. Happy birthday."

This was already the best birthday she'd had since she was a kid and she had only been awake for about ten minutes. She was in a very good mood all morning, especially when she didn't have to make lunch either.
