Oh, I Don't Want Money

Adam's old classmate answered on the first ring. His phone must have been in his hand. "Hello, Adam. I assume you aren't calling me to chat since it's been more than eight years since the last one."

"You're right. Do you know how to get a stepparent adoption expedited?"

"Of course. That's child's play. Why do you need it? I didn't hear anything about you being married."

"I'm not yet. My best friend is in a bind and I have to help her and her son before his scumbag father discovers his existence and tries to file for custody," Adam explained. "We can get married in two days but the adoption—"

"I can get it done in under a week. You'll need to wait to fill the paperwork out until after the marriage though. If they're in hiding, I can get their name and social security number changes expedited as well. But I never do something for nothing," Richard said plainly.

That was what he thought. "How much do you want?"
