No! Not Her!

Preston had been worried when he didn't see Luz on Sunday night. He always saw her when she came back from spending time with her dad on the weekends. Always.

He tried telling himself that he might have just missed her and that she could have been too tired to say hi…even though that wasn't like her at all. But he didn't begin to truly panic until he didn't see her at breakfast the following morning and she wouldn't answer her bedroom door when he went to check on her afterward.

He texted her somewhat desperately asking where she was—she wasn't the type to oversleep—and didn't get a response for over an hour. He was in the middle of class when he sneakily checked his phone and was so shocked that he screeched "WHAT?!" out loud.

Everyone stared at him. Oops.

"Do you have something you'd like to share with the class, Mr. Parrish?" the teacher asked dryly.

"No, sir," Preston replied meekly.
