You Always Will Be, Right?

Derek's tone was much heavier than usual and Joy's heart went out to him. She knew he couldn't do pictures because he couldn't reconcile the way he found their bodies with how they used to be.

She couldn't even imagine. It was so sad that he couldn't even bring himself to remember what the ones he loved looked like.

He had shown her pictures once though. They all looked a lot like him. They all had brown hair and eyes even if the shades were a bit different and their faces had a distinctive look the way some siblings did.

Derek had looked so much younger and happier in them. They had been taken only a few months before everyone else was killed. Joy had never seen him grin like that in person.

She sighed heavily. "It's hard knowing you'll never hear them again, isn't it? What little we have is all that's left of them."

"Yeah. And that once we're gone, no one will remember them at all," he said in a hard voice.
