War 2

We are standing in an open field, that has limited coverage to the right. This is where we are to hold off the Athenians. The road chokes a bit the further towards Sparta you go, but we are to start the confrontation right here.

Over at the distance, we see our enemies coming from the distance, they should be in firing range in 20 minutes. The tension is getting higher as I begin to feel my body tensing up, with my spear in one hand shield in the other, and sword on my hip. Breathing becomes more labored, seeing their numbers puts me into so much tension that I begin to feel my adrenaline spike very high.

"SHIELDS"

The command came in and all shields went up, we crouched using our shields to cover most if not all of our bodies with it. Some people start taking injuries, shoulders, calves, and some to the back. After what felt like hours, the arrows stop coming in, we pick up our spears and get ready for the real attack that is about to come.

"FORMATIONS"

We use the basic 3 by 30 men, separating into different sections with some space in-between. The 3 front sections are to start the battle and the others will adjust to cover gaps. The formation is offset to spread out the enemies, and even if they can penetrate a line there is enough space to regroup and halt their momentum.

"Hold"

*Crash*

Unlike the movies they did not just run into the shields, they pushed in with heavy shields with spikes on the ramming into our men. The line starts to move back a bit, the shields are looking for a chance to gain footing and attack.

"HOLD MEN"

With the support of the 2 other lines, they came to a halt.

"RAISE"

The shields crouched down a bit, and then pushed up. The Athenians holding heavy shields did not expect that and lost their footing, resulting in them losing some of their formations. Spears come out of our formation to punish those gaps between the formations.

Blood sprayed everywhere and although we have the advantage, the Athenians are striking back with their spears into the gaps between our round shields.

I am part of the second section and seeing all the blood and death raises my adrenaline higher, my blood starts to speed through my body, and my vision is even more narrow than my helmet. My hands grip my spear and shield even tighter, and I take half a step back with my right leg to brace.

The Athenians are breaking through the line in front of me.

"HAAAA"

"ENGAGE"

I crouch down a bit behind my shield, pushing forward with a step, and thrust my spear out with the energy I accumulated. Killing the first person in front of me, with no time to think of what has just happened, another comes charging at me. Pulling my body back like a spring, this time I push forward with my shield to disrupt their charge.

*Bang*

"SHIELDS"

After pushing the person back, I hear the command, before I could even adjust my position the person already started their charge. A spear comes from the side of my left ear stabbing him in the neck.

"Focus"

We brace shields again and start pushing forward little by little, killing all enemies in front of us. I start to see some Spartan warriors in front of me, I keep pushing forward and killing while giving space for our men to move into the formation. This continues until I see no more warriors ahead of me.

I can feel the warriors beside me stop and I also stop and brace, never stopping my spear from taking lives even as I stand there. The soldiers start to thin out as we continue killing with all our might, as I continue my spear gets stuck within the body of a soldier. Releasing my spear, I pull out my sword.

Block then strike, rinse ad repeat. The line begins to break up as we hunt and kill all in front of us, I use my shield to trip someone while delivering the final blow to his neck. I look up and see that the place is clear of fighting, Athenians have drawn back a lot. The bodies of both warriors and soldiers line the floors, more of their than ours but still tragic because our numbers are less than theirs.

"FORMATIONS"

We rush back together and regroup our formations.

"PULL"

We begin to pull back step by step keeping our eyes on the enemy. We are going on to the second battle location to regroup. We start retreating faster with the front section moving back and regrouping behind, while those behind wait for the front section to regroup behind before moving themselves.

Reaching our second battleground, a lot of the men are treating their injuries, as this is not the main battle and just feeling each other out. My adrenaline starts to wear off and I begin to feel pain in my chest, my hands, and my neck.

"ATREDIES, you have survived, hahaha," says Helios as he comes patting my back.

"Good to see you, my friend," behind him comes Zopyros.

"I have come well, what of you two," I said

"Great" X2

Helios was probably with the first collusion group, while Zopyros was probably to the side to fully use his strength. How they both came out without any injuries, still smiling tells me they had an easier time than I did with the first battle.

"I must attend to my wounds first less I bleed too much," I said trying to hide the fact that I stopped bleeding already.

'What happened back then, why was I releasing so much adrenaline, my control is better than this,' I ask myself as I treat my wounds.

'I couldn't even see the edges of my helmet, I conserved no energy and just continued killing'

*Barf*

Realization finally hit me, I have actually killed people this time. No matter how much of an alpha male I claimed to be in my past, taking the life of someone else was something I have never done before.

'This is not going to work out well for me if this continues.'

I take out some of the rations I have and start stuffing myself to replenish my energy. I left my spear on the first battlefield so I need to get a new one.

"Laicard, I need a new spear," I said

"How can you lose your weapon in battle," said Laicard, clearly very angry at me for that.

*SWOOF*
