The elevator stopped at the 7th underground floor, and Alex got out.
The elevator was situated in the middle of a huge empty space, surrounded by four big white walls, each with a big tunnel in them. A car was standing beside each tunnel entry.
On top of each of the tunnels, a letter was written in black indicating the direction the tunnel was directed (N, W, E, S).
Alex didn't stall and went into the car parked near the northern tunnel and started the engine. He drove so fast that he reached the 9th exit point in less than a minute and got out of the car.
After climbing the stairs, he came out of a hole in the house's basement floor.
There was indeed a car parked at the front of the house, but it was so messed up that it wasn't drivable.
In fact, the whole neighborhood was in a bad situation. It looked like a hurricane had come, wrecked all the houses and cars, and then left.
Alex sighed at the sight in front of him and started running without even looking for the guy who was supposed to be looking after the house. He most probably left the area as soon as the "hurricane" hit.
Alex stretched in front of the door and was about to start running when he heard a woman screaming.
He stood there for a moment deciding on whether to interfere or not. With the way the world was right now, he ought to encounter such situations, so he wasn't just deciding whether to help this woman or not, but he was deciding if he wanted to help every woman he encountered.
"What am I thinking? This time is not like last time; I have a second chance with Emy; I won't become the same person I was last time." Alex said to himself.
In his previous life, after Emily's death, he became an emotionally flat person. There wasn't even a ripple of emotion in the big lake his brain was.
Sure, he cared about his teammates, but he was just like a rock for people he didn't know.
Alex ran in the direction of the scream and saw three men inside a narrow alley standing over a young girl with their pants down. Near the girl, an older man was lying unconscious on the ground.
"Hey," Alex shouted.
The three men looked around and saw no one but the next second; they felt a stinging pain in their behind. When they looked down, they saw a thick metal stick, sticking out of their ass.
They didn't even have the time to react before another stinging pain assaulted them from the front. When they looked down again, there was nothing down there. And that was precisely the problem. There was nothing down there.
The three men started screaming in pain and panic and were about to faint when they heard a voice, "system, don't let them faint," the voice said.
At this instant, the girl was frightened too. She didn't know what was happening; she saw a shadow figure running left and right but didn't know if it was a friend or foe.
Alex stopped, and with his hands raised, he approached the girl, "Hello, I'm Alex; I won't hurt you; is that person next to you your father?"
After seeing her nod, Alex bought a common health potion from the store and gave it to the girl, "give this to him; it will help him recover faster."
There was no injury on the man's body, so Alex was sure that a common health potion would do the trick.
Then he turned around and looked at the three figures who were rolling on the ground in pain.
"I think you deserve to suffer more, but fortunately for you, I don't have time," said Alex and slashed their throats.
The girls screamed in terror, but Alex just disintegrated the three bodies and left without saying anything, he had saved them from the thugs, and that was the end of it.
"you have killed three players."
"305,030,721 INB has been added to your account."
Hidden quest improvement: 29 confirmed kills.
"Cherry on the top," said Alex and ran in the direction he originally had in mind.
As Alex was running through the city, he encountered many homeless people who didn't know what to do and just sat on the ground staring at the ground.
Almost all the buildings were wrecked and Alex was sure that many people were still alive under all that wreckage, but there was nothing he could do about it.
He didn't have time to save every one of them, so he decided to only focus on helping the ones in immediate need of help and leave.
With his speed, it didn't take long to arrive at his destination, but when he got there, he was surprised to see the wreckage in the place of the house he was looking for.
"am I too late?" he asked himself with sorrow in his voice and started searching around to see if he could find any clue about where he could find the person he was looking for.
After about thirty minutes of searching and moving the wreckage, he found a door that was situated on the ground, 'is this a basement door?' he thought and knocked, but no answer came.
"now that I think of it, I remember she said that she was trapped under their house with her family for a week until some survivors saved them," mumbled Alex and stood up before kicking the door and crushing it.
He started going down the stairs very slowly. The basement was dark and damp. Alex could only see in front of himself.
"Hello, is anyone here? I'm here to help," shouted Alex.
As he was about to give up, he heard light breathing from under his foot and moved to the side before sharpening his senses and looking down.
"I know you are down there; I'm here to help," he repeated and started looking for a handle to the secret room inside the basement.
"I'm going to open the door now, don't be afraid; I'm here to help," said Alex and opened the door.
Under the door, there was a relatively small room, not much bigger than 2*2, and a petite girl and a young woman were sitting there with a flashlight in each of their hands.
"Hello, my name is Alex. I'm here to help you," said Alex and extended his hand to the young girl.
