After getting home, Alex went straight to bed and slept through the day. He was mentally too exhausted to care about anything.
After waking up the next day, he grabbed his new phone and checked the messages.
There really was a million dollars in his new bank account. There were also some addresses that number three had sent him to check.
He got up and went to take a shower. He didn't even bother to take his clothes off and went in fully clothed.
He was in for about fifteen minutes when he heard the door.
"Mr. Adams, this is the police. Open the door," a woman's voice could be heard from the other side of the door.
Alex opened the door with his wet clothes and said, "can I help you…." As he was about to finish his sentence, he came eye to eye with a beautiful woman.
"detective," said the woman, "my name is Alice Gray. I'm here to ask you some questions concerning a case I'm working on."
"ok, ask away."
"where were you eight days ago?"
"I think I was at work. I don't remember clearly. Why? Did something happen?"
"do you know this man?" said the detective while showing him a picture of a young man.
"yes, this is Barry Jenkins. He was my co-worker before he got me fired from the company."
The detective clearly didn't expect such a harsh tone from a suspect and went quiet for a few seconds.
"Is there anything else, detective?"
"do you know what happened to Mr. Jenkins?"
"yes. He was murdered eight days ago. It's all over the news."
"do you have an alibi for the night he was murdered?"
"yes, I was in a work interview for AZ corporation. You can check it with Mr. Williams, the person who interviewed me."
He had already gone through all of these scenarios and questions with number three and had the answers ready.
"But you said you didn't remember where you were eight days ago."
"That was because I didn't remember what day it was eight days ago. I clearly remember I was back home when I got the news about his death, so I went to a bar to celebrate. You can also check the bar if you want."
His clear hostile tone toward Jenkins's death surprised her again 'no suspect acts so hostile about someone's murder 'he has to have a strong alibi.'
After some more questioning and finding nothing out, detective Gray took the contact info of Alex's alibis and asked him not to leave the city until further notice.
Alex went back in and changed his clothes, and then went to look at the apartments that number three had sent him.
There were five apartments on the list, and Alex checked all of them before settling for a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment in the center of the city.
His apartment was on the top floor of a nine-story building, and Alex had three neighbors.
Alex chose the apartment for a secret room in its master bedroom.
After moving there, he started working and planning his next project.
His next target was originally spouse to be Sara Lin, Mr. Louise's secretary, and secret lover.
She was one of Kate's best friends, so he didn't think about it twice before accepting when she told him about Mr. Louise's business proposal.
But when she wanted to clear his plan with number three, she told him that he had to leave Sara for the last and for now focus on the others, so Alex had to change his plans and start over.
Two days passed, and Alex hadn't even finished half of his plans. He was sitting quietly and looking at the wall in front of him.
There were seven pictures pinned on the right side of the wall. One of them had an x drown on it. It was Barry's picture, his first target.
After a lengthy discussion with number three, he decided that his next target would be Zack Rid.
He was on the board of the hospital where Alex's daughter was admitted.
He was the person who rejected Anna's case for a pro-bono surgery and made the doctors discharge her.
Alex wasn't too worried about the police connecting his death to Barry Jenkins's death.
He didn't even meet him face to face. He just heard his name from one of the nurses.
After he looked into it and made sure that Zack Rid was the one who signed his daughter's discharge papers, he added him to his list.
The only problem he was facing right now was how to get him alone.
Right now, he was waiting for number three to send him Zack Rid's investigation results.
All that time spent thinking, Alex had one picture stuck in his mind. His wife and daughter smiling at the camera, ready for a picture while the camera was on video.
It has been two years since the day his daughter died and one and half years since his wife's death.
Ever since they left him alone, the thought of revenge never left his thoughts.
He wanted to make them suffer like he was suffering. But he couldn't bring himself to harm their families so he settled for the next best thing. An excruciating death.
But right now he had other things to think about.
The wall in front of him was actually separated into two parts.
One for the seven scums, and the other for the eight that he had to eliminate from the program and the three big bosses.
numbers from one to eleven with question marks on them were written big on the left side of the wall, each with a little text written under them.
That was the information Alex had gathered in the MA meeting when they shared their story.
Number five was the one that gave away the most information and number seven was the one with almost nothing usable.
Alex left the ones with the most information alone. One way or another they would get eliminated through the program.
He was putting all his focus on numbers, four, seven, and nine.
The three that were sponsored. Four and nine were sponsored by number one while number seven was sponsored by number two.
Number four:
Gender: Male
First victim: best friend
Age: ???
Marital status: Single (has problem connecting with people)
Job: ???
Sponsored by number one
Number seven:
Gender: ???
First victim: college professor (poisoned)
Age: 18-25
Marital status: ???
Job: college student
Sponsored by number two
Number nine:
Gender: female
First victim: boyfriend (cheating)
Age: ???
Marital status: single (a little crazy)
Job: ???
Sponsored by number one
He almost knew nothing usable about these three and considered them his only real competition.
On the other hand, the other five had given away so much that with a little persistence, anybody could find out their identity.
Alex was looking at the pictures and numbers on the wall when suddenly the doorbell rang.
He came out of the secret room and went to the door "who is it?"
"I'm your next-door neighbor. Do you probably have any coffee? I just came back from work, and noticed that I just finished mine…" said the girl on the other side of the door.
Alex hid the gun in his hand and opened the door to the familiar voice.
"you know detective, if you want to come in, you can just say who you are. There is No need for theatrics."
