Creed walked for about an hour while following the map to a sketchy area far away from the main street. At some point, he entered a seemingly random building. This was a dilapidated part of the city, so there was barely any security. All Creed had to do was avoid some of the less savory characters and gang members hanging around the area.
Creed had done this a thousand times already, so sneaking past the gang members wasn't an issue, and reasonably soon, Creed was inside and climbing towards the highest point of the building.
Once he arrived, Creed broke the lock and walked onto the roof of the building. Outside, Creed looked up but could still only see buildings much larger than the one he was on, covering the skyline.
"For a random planet's mega-city, this is quite impressive, but it still doesn't compare to the planet-wide cities like Goz," Creed whispered to himself with some nostalgia while setting up his sniper rifle. He had seen thousands of planets and even more cities while playing the game. Goz was a city that covered an entire planet's surface, with a population of NPCs far exceeding the trillions.
He took point on the eastern side of the building and noted that he had a clear view of the Horizon building.
"This distance should be far enough," Creed mumbled as he settled into his position and regulated his breathing.
Sniping wasn't one of his previous paths. However, Creed had dabbled in many paths before, especially ones related to combat, so he knew exactly what one needed to do to increase their chances of accurately hitting their target.
Creed waited patiently for an hour while looking into the scope of his rifle. From this vantage point, he could only see a small portion of the Horizon building. However, Creed had already confirmed that this is where his target's offices were.
It was still early morning, so Creed was ready for a long wait. However, to his surprise, the pair arrived together in a chauffeur-driven vehicle. The Horizon commander left the car while shouting something at the guards, showing that he was angry. However, Creed did not have a clear shot from this angle, so he simply continued to watch.
The Captain, who was the Commander's son, also casually walked out of the car, pointed towards the two guards posted at the entrance, and then gestured toward the car. The guards seemed confused but quickly rushed toward the car and pulled out an unconscious man.
"Isn't that Mr. Chatty?" Creed thought in confusion. This man had unknowingly shared information with him from the previous day. Creed hadn't revealed his face or personal information to the man, so he wasn't worried, but the man clearly seemed to be in trouble as the guards dragged him into the building.
Once they were in the building, Creed completely lost track of them, but half an hour later, Creed spotted the Commander and the Captain entering his office. The Commander had blood covering his hands and suit jacket, which he promptly took off and threw aside.
He grabbed a towel and started wiping his bloody hands while yelling something at the Captain. The son gave a sadistic smile and said something to his father, which promptly earned him a punch to the jaw and caused him to fall to the ground.
The Commander turned around, grabbed a stack of papers, and threw it to the Captain while rolling up his sleeves.
"What a messed up family, Creed mumbled as he squeezed the trigger. There was no silencer on the rifle, so a loud booming sound was heard, followed by two more booming sounds in quick succession.
Five minutes before this happened, in the Horizon office...
The Commander violently opened the door and took off his jacket.
"Damnit, Luke. I asked you to do one thing, just one!"
"It's not my fault. Your guys are just too incompetent!. We should have hired professionals..."
"Shut up!. You were supposed to train them as their Captain! So stop making excuses and just fix this!"
"Just face it, your plan to get rid of her failed, and now you want me to fix your problems."
"What did you say?! whose fault do you think it is that we're even in this mess?!" The Commander roared as he punched his son onto the ground and then turned to grab a stack of documents on his desk.
"I'm giving you one more chance—Son of mine or not. You fail again, and I'll do to you what I just did to that mouthy little weasel, got it?!" the Commander roared.
However, a bullet hit the window at that moment, causing a large web of cracks to appear. The Commander turned around in shock as a second bang was heard, and another bullet accurately hit the spot where the first bullet had landed.
This time, entirely shattering the already compromised glass. The third shot accurately smashed the Commander in the head, causing him to fall with a thud. All this happened within a second, allowing the man little time to react.
The Captain looked on in complete fear as he started to scream for help while trying to crawl out of there, but two more shots rang out, sinking into his neck and back, causing him to fall onto the ground.
A few minutes later, a group of heavily armed and armored guards came rushing into the building with their weapons drawn. However, all they saw was the Commander and the Captain, who had been assassinated, lying on the ground.
Sirens rang out throughout the area as both Horizon guards, and LH-Corp law enforcement gathered at the scene.
At this time, Creed has long since packed up all of his equipment and left the area. A crowd had formed at the base of the building where Creed had taken the shot. However, Creed had already planned his escape route ahead of time and gone down into the sewers without going through the building's entrance.
Creed discreetly emerged from the sewers a few blocks away and headed to his next location, where he had left a different cloak to change into. Creed knew that a man-hunter would likely not be organized in this massive city. After all, Horizon was not part of any LH-Corp subsidiaries, so LH stood to gain nothing by spending resources to look for the culprit.
Creed knew that, at most, LH-Corp would only have a large show of force over the next few weeks while accosting random gangs to reinforce their dominance and discourage such brazen acts.
Creed stayed hidden within the large crowds for a few more hours as LH-Corp enforcers flooded into the slums.
The streets quickly cleared out as the enforcers made their presence known. Random people and gangsters were arrested or beaten up while street vendors' stalls were destroyed and cleared out. Creed frowned when he saw how the enforcers treated the innocent people but knew he was powerless to do anything. He also knew that he had indirectly caused this situation, but Creed had absolutely no intentions of taking responsibility. After all, he wasn't the one mistreating the citizens; the enforcers were.
After a few more hours, the LH-Corp enforcers slowly began to retreat away from the slums.
Creed took the chance to leave the place and walked around in circles. Once he was confident nobody was following him, Creed casually went back to Rea's home.
The restaurant was closed because of the commotion, so Creed quietly went to the workshop. However, Rea was already waiting there. Her eyes were teary as she watched him enter. Behind her was a small datapad showing the local news of the assassinations.
"You really did it..." Rea said as the tears started flowing down her face.
"Of course, I said I would after all. You should be all good now. The main culprits who had an interest in getting rid of you are now gone." Creed said with a smile.
At that moment, the icon on Rea's head began to glow as the words changed.
