There were two things that Joyce could have done at the moment. One, she could have chosen not to go and two, she could have chosen to do as she was told. But like the coward that she was, she decided to go through with it.
Could it be a coincidence that somehow he had given her the time when she had no lectures or classes? Adrian Murphy did not appear to be someone who worked around to make sure that the meeting would be comfortable. He was the kind of person that would work out the order and everyone else would have to follow.
Getting out of the taxi that she had held earlier, she stared at the daunting building in front of her. The building looked like it was never ending and could definitely reach into the sky and disappear above the clouds.
She walked in, the watchman opened the door for her before she stood at the entrance like a dumb nut wondering where she should go.
"Excuse me?" The receptionist called her. "Can I help you with something?"
Finally, Joyce moved towards the reception before placing her fists over the counter top. "Yes, I have a meeting with Mr. Murphy."
"Mr Murphy, Charles Murphy, you mean?"
"No," Joyce shook her head, "Adrian."
"Ad-Adrian?" The receptionist blinked in shock. " you must be aware of the fact that you cannot enter the building without any appointment with one of the officials. Do you have an appointment with Mr Adrian Murphy?"
"I do. I am Joyce O'Sullivan and I still have five minute left." Joyce pointed to the clock that showed that it was still five minutes to the given time of the meeting.
The receptionist glanced at the clock before looking back at Joyce. "Please wait while I call and check."
If she meant to step back and sit in the waiting area while she placed a call, Joyce stupidly continued to stand at the reception.
Placing the handset next to her ear, the receptionist pressed a button and waited for a second or two. "Ah yes, Hi. I have Joyce O'Sullivan for MR. A Murphy."
"Right, yes." She continued and choice almost started to chew on her fingernails. Did she not have an appointment? What is she going to be sent back from the reception?
"Alright, Ma'am." The receptionist placed the phone down. Please follow me. This lift will go directly to the floor of the selection and his assistant will receive you from there."
The receptionist pressed a button inside left before stepping out and doors of the left closed in between them before it headed up.
She kept on staring at the door before they finally opened and another woman dressed in office attire stood in front of her with a kind smile. Thankfully.
"Hello, Miss O'Sullivan. I'm here to tell you. Please," She stepped aside, letting Joyce step out of their lift with ample space to walk in.
It was a given that they were going towards the big door at the end of the hall. The assistant knocked on the doors before keeping in.
"Alright," she smiled and held the door wide, "in you go, Dear."
