Moments of helplessness - II

"Darling, don't cry," Briana lightly dabbed tissue on the corner of Joyce's eyes. "It's a happy moment."

"I know, hence, the happy tears."

"Hmm," Brianna smiled. "come down quickly. Your father has demanded a feast in celebration."

Joyce nodded and waited until her mother was out of her room and closed the door behind her before she left the tears fall.

She closed her eyes, allowing multiple of them to fall down her cheek once before clamping her mouth shut. No sob was to be heard otherwise everything would be under suspicion.

This was meant to happen one day or the other day. She was supposed to be the wife of someone in the same company as her father was and it was only a matter of time.

It was the reality that everyone had accepted and so had She. So, if anyone saw her crying, they were going to be suspicious.

"Why?" She whispered through the silent crying as she stared at the ring on her ring singer. Why did it have to happen so soon? She thought that she had at least till the end of graduation with George.

She had to break it up. Now it was too risky to be with him, to be seen with him.

Michael Ford was not an ordinary man, at least not at the level her father was age. He was powerful and he was going to have people on the university campus to keep an eye on her. After all, with what happened with his first wife, he was going to be cautious with her.

"Fuck," Joyce cursed.

She had two options but none of them were going to work. One was, she made sure that the wedding happened after the graduation but even if it did, Michael would know. The second was, She left The university and broke up with George in the context of they were shifting to another country.

Long distance would never work especially with her strict family.

At least with the second option, she and George would not see each other anymore. She would mostly stay at home and only go out whenever Michael wanted her to accompany him or for a few lunches and whatever her mother did.

They would run in different crowds and have the least chance of running into each other.

Dabbing the tissue all over the face before doing a quick concealer base over her face to get rid of the crying eyes, Joyce stood up to walk out of the room.

Meant she got up from the vanity chair, her eyes landed on the rosary.

God.. she stared at it before picking it up and stuffing it into the last drawer of the vanity.

It was a feast in celebration and Michael along with his father were the chief attendants.

The attention had been gravitated towards them and for once, Joyce was thankful for that. Since it was only family, she was mostly ignored and she was okay with it.

"I think that We should host the engagement ceremony soon. The wedding ceremony can be held after Joyce graduates. She only has a semester left." Brianna spoke and received the attention of everyone, even Joyce who looked up from her plate this once.

"I have to make reservations at church And make sure my daughter has the most beautiful wedding." She glanced at Joyce before she exchanged a look with Killian who nodded as well.

It was Michael's father; John, who answered. "I would love to host an engagement ceremony but we would prefer if we get the children married by the end of the next month."

"Next month?" Brianna gasped. " but that is—"

Next month… She was not going to have enough time to break up with George. The best option would be to pull out of university. Maybe she could attend the semester at home, online, whatever but if she ran into George with a huge diamond ring on her finger…

It would break his heart.

Ignoring whatever her mother was saying because no one was going to agree with her, Joyce once again found herself staring at her plate and playing with the food.

It was over.
