A calm night - II

The next morning, Joyce felt even worse. Her throat ached more than yesterday and unlike then, it did not happen when she spoke, it was constant and it hurt a lot.

Quickly refreshing herself, she moved towards the living room like last night and found Charles dressed for the day.

"Morning," he wished when his eyes found hers. "Pain?"

She nodded. This time verbal answers were something she would like to refrain from. Maybe, she did not feel the pain last night because of shock and adrenaline. Today was going to be worse for sure.

"I see." He glanced at her throat which was dark purple in color with the outline of her father's fingers.

"The doctor said not to chew anything too difficult to swallow. So, I have oats for you, one of the foods he recommended. It should be lukewarm." He informed her.
