We went home.

When we walked in we were laughing and shoving each other. I felt like a thousand bricks had been lifted off me.

My mom was standing there waiting. “Do you two have something to tell us?”

Eric’s father stood behind her. Giving us a long look.

My gaze fell and my smile died.

How do I tell them?

This is going to be so awkward.

“Eric?” She asked.

“Allison and I are dating.” He said flatly. Giving her a look that said he was ready for whatever happened.

“Bout time.” Joey Blackburn muttered.

“What?” Mom twisted to give him a look.

“Well, the two have been dancing around each other like strutting toms for years now.” He gestured to us.

“I’m aware of that.” Jessica bobbed her head at him warningly. “That doesn’t mean you need to encourage it.”

They began to argue.

I felt a poke in the center of my back and looked over my shoulder to see Eric was prodding for me to go upstairs.

With widened eyes, he nodded for me to go.
