Chapter 13: Drawing Attention

A month had passed since she had begun teaching Aubrey and Lanry to read, but it felt like a year. Mostly because she had experienced more in the last few weeks than she had in years.

It felt like the only time she was home anymore was for meals and sleeping. When she wasn’t sneaking off to see Aubrey, it was to spend time with Windor. Lilith was more than willing to help cover for her, and Maggie never complained so long as Aeris said she was going to see Aubrey. It still bothered her to lie about Windor, but there was never a good time to bring up that she was dating. Just like Windor was still in the dark about Reks living with her.

She wasn’t doing anything wrong but still felt guilty. Every day was more sneaking around, more hiding, and more dreading being caught. But even with the crippling trepidation, she didn’t want to stop. She enjoyed the time she spent with Windor and she enjoyed helping Aubrey and Lanry learn to read.
