THIRD PERSON POV
Charles and Avalon panicked as Gaia and Thomas continued to scream in pain. Nathaniel and Iris glanced at each other and slowly backed away before she nodded at his silent order and phased away. That, of course, did not escape the notice of the two wolves who were unaccustomed to this scenario, “Where is she going NOW of all times?”, Charles questioned.
Avalon realized Nathaniel looking at them with the most serious expression he’s ever seen from the usually playful vampire, “This is the moon’s doing right? What do we do?”
Nathaniel grabbed Charles away from a writhing Thomas and tried to grab Avalon but couldn’t. He realized his sister who collapsed and Avalon who grabbed her before she hit the ground were both inside the barrier. Fear sliced through him as he sent a silent prayer that Iris was acting quickly. Charles tried fighting Nathaniel to get out of his hold, but this was also a vampire he couldn’t match in strength, “What are you doing?!:
“SAVING YOUR LIFE!”, Nathaniel retorted.
“LET GO!”
“There are protocols for situations like this. I understand how you feel but we need to get away from them right now.”, He said as continued to pull Charles as he backed away slowly.
Charles looked over as he felt a new presence. He watched as Iris came back with 3 other vampires. Iris had phased back to the grounds with Daniel, Lucus, and Delany behind her. The siblings all felt the fear of God invading them when they took in the situation. Daniel used his power to haul Avalon away from Gaia and out of the barrier. The siblings nodded at each other and jumped into action. Iris’s eyes glowed silver as she used her power to restrain Avalon and Charles who were trying to reach their mates. They were both startled at the vines that sprung from the earth and wrapped around their limbs. They tried to use their claws to tear them, but they soon realized that even though the vines came from the earth and trees, they were harder than steel itself. They struggled meaninglessly for a while but couldn’t break free. Lucus and Delany grabbed hands and started reciting a spell as their eyes glowed silver. Multiple blue lights shot into the sky as several portals opened in different areas around the territory. After Daniel had removed Avalon successfully he then used his power again to pull Gaia out of the barrier. He lifted her twitching body and looked over at Nathaniel as he grabbed Thomas’s arm and threw it over his shoulder while Lucus grabbed the other and did the same.
“I’ll go and prepare it.”, Delany said before she phased away.
When a portal opened in front of them, the vines moved Avalon and Charles through it as Iris stepped through after them. After the vines finally let them go, they realized the portal led them to some sort of prison. Two cells contained a small bed and a door that lead to another room, but they soon noticed that one cell had several more chains than the other one. They backed away from it when they realized it was made of pure silver. Daniel, Nathaniel, and Lucus stepped through with Gaia and Thomas. Iris grabbed Thomas’s shoulder from Nathaniel and helped Lucus take him into one of the cells while Daniel and Nathaniel placed Gaia in the other one; the one with more chains. Silver was lethal to the supernatural kind and yet Avalon and Charles looked on in shock as the vampires casually touched it. The chains in the cell were attached to Gaia’s and Thomas’s limbs but one was also attached to Gaia’s neck. The siblings moved speedily to get Gaia and Thomas secure before the moon took full effect. Avalon moved back as they exited the cell the same time Delany reappeared with 2 packs of blood, 2 syringes filled with a clear liquid, a knife, and 2 vials of x potion. She walked over to Gaia and injected whatever was in the syringe into her arm. She then used the knife to slit Gaia's finger and dropped the blood in the potion. The x potion was a blue liquid in its natural form, but it only worked when it was mixed with Gaia’s blood. Avalon watched as the liquid in the vial changed to a purple violet color before Delany threw it on the ground in Gaia’s cell and locked the door. She then walked over to Thomas’s cell, used the second syringe on him, placed the two packs of blood on the small shelf attached to the wall, and threw the potion on the ground as well before locking the door to his cell. She pushed her hands through the bars and rested the knife on the shelf in Gaia’s cell before stepping back in line with her siblings.
A few minutes later Gaia and Thomas’s movement ceased, and silence took over. Everyone watched cautiously as they both opened their eyes and sat up. Charles moved to go to Thomas’s cell but paused in his steps when he noticed his eyes. Thomas’s pupils had dilated so much that the golden color of his irises was nothing but a thin ring around them. Avalon looked at Gaia who had sat up as well and noticed the same thing. Gone was the silver-blue color he had gotten so used to seeing. All that watched him as if he was prey, were eyes dark as night. Thomas was the first to move as he snatched one of the blood bags and tore it open violently to drain it. His movements were feral as he snarled at them while clutching the other bag. His actions were akin to an animal guarding its caught prey. The rattling of the chains was the only sound in his cell apart from his wild snarls. When the first bag of blood was done, he tore open the second one and emptied it just as quick as he did the first. Watching him like that unsettled Charles more than he wanted it to.
What unnerved Avalon was how silent Gaia was. Her eyes tracked each of their movement like an apex predator waiting to play out an ambush, “Is this what the moon does to them?”
Avalon wasn’t sure who he was asking but he hoped at least one of her family members present had an answer. The Flanington siblings all knew the answer to Avalon’s question, but they turned their heads to Delany waiting for her to explain since she had extensive knowledge on how the moon affects each vampire and why it’s so different for their sister and her mweya, Thomas. Delany however, sneered in Avalon and Charles’s direction and left, phasing out of the cell. The wolves furrowed their brows at her reaction to them and glanced at each other. Lucus sighed and stepped forward, “I’ll have to ask you to excuse my younger sister. She’s not necessarily…...accepting of your kind.” He then turned to his Nathaniel, “Deal with them and I’ll speak to mother.” and phased out of the cell.
Avalon watched as Thomas fell unconscious before turning to Daniel, “What did she give them?”
“A sedative. Enough to knock them out for a few hours.”, He responded.
Charles interrupted him, “What fucking kind? Sedatives don’t work on us.”
Avalon stepped closer to peer at Gaia but was snatched by his arm away from her. Not a minute later, a loud bang sounded as the chain around Gaia’s neck yanked her back, away from them because of how much force she used. Before anyone could move, Daniel threw his hand out toward her. A loud snap sounded in the cell before Gaia collapsed to the ground. Nathaniel opened her cell and picked her up off the floor before gently placing her on the small bed, “Our family was once one of the first lines of purebloods to exist; now?..... we are the last. The members of our bloodline are different from regular vampires. My sister, however, is different. She’s stronger than us and she works even harder to keep us safe; that’s why she’s the leader of this coven ……but she suffers every day. She’s been through enough that death would be a welcoming relief to her.”, he turned to them and walked out of the cell locking the door behind him, “Our coven’s name is the Sun Coven.”
(This scene contains a mixed dialogue with/without written indicators)
“The sun coven was a coven for witches and warlocks that worshipped Anali, The Sun Goddess. The entire coven was massacred centuries ago in the great war.”, Avalon interrupted with a confused frown.
Iris pointed out the window, “Do you see that large golden building structure over there?”
Charles and Avalon followed the direction of her finger to the large golden temple that stood at the edge of the barrier. The sun rays reflecting off it twinkled like stars in a clear midnight sky.
Nathaniel crossed his arms across his chest, “Our grandmother was the previous leader of the coven. WE are hybrids. This coven; is the only one in the world that consists of hybrids and mixing of species through mating bonds.”
“Our mother was a witch and our father, a vampire. We were born before the great war. The first ever hybrids born to a witch’s coven. It was practically unheard of. Especially in the time period we were born in."
"The problem was that the sun coven only ever produced female offspring. So even though we were born hybrids, my brothers cannot use magic. We do however have immunity to silver. It’s lethal to the supernatural but for us, all it does is drain our strength…. Reduces us to nothing but mortals.”, Iris said while looking out the window.
“That potion your sister used just now….it was the same one Gaia gave to me.”, Charles spoke up after a moment of realization.
“Yes. Gaia developed the x potion during the great war. Our coven was not made of fighters. We mainly practiced healing magic at the time. It was an error on our ancestors' part and it left us defenseless when the war broke out. We lost a lot of people during that time, including our grandmother, the previous leader. Gaia used our blood to develop the potion. That potion protected a lot of our people during the war. It was one of the reasons we won the war in the first place.”, Nathaniel kicked off the wall he was leaning on. “But she’d never have expected that after the war, an even worse evil was plotting right within our walls. William destroyed this coven…. destroyed her. She was never the same after they escaped.”
“This is not the first time I’ve heard his name. Who is this William? And what the hell did he do to my mate?”, Avalon questioned frustratingly.
“It wasn't just your mate. William-“
“Be quiet Iris. Gaia hasn’t told him as yet.”, Daniel hissed.
Avalon blew out a frustrated breath through his nose, his eyes flashing with anger.
*************
Eventually, Gaia and Thomas woke up the next day when the effects of the moon dissipated. They now had to stay confined for the rest of the duration of the blood moon. Avalon waited until Gaia woke up, “I have been nothing but patient and understanding with you Gaia, but these last few days have been so confusing and wild that I can’t willingly stay in the dark anymore. You said you’d tell me when the time was right, well right now is the time. You attacked my beta in my own pack and then proceeded to just ignore us asking you over and over WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!”. Avalon’s voice slowly got louder as his anger started to show through, “Either you tell me tomorrow or I’m done.”
The last thing she saw was his angry form as he slammed the door on the way out.
