There was no car in the driveway that she could see and hopefully that meant that no one was now inside the building.
The antibiotics were still in her hand and so was the plate of food that the woman had left behind.
Going over two where she had left the plate of the food, Victoria licked her lips again. She could feel her stomach rumbling at the sight of it but there was something else that she had to do.
So she grabbed the muffin and the chicken leg in one hand and the other she kept the antibiotics and a small bottle of water provided to her. Even with food, they could not provide her with a proper water bottle.
Taking control of her shaking limbs, Victoria opened the door that the woman had left unlocked and went down the stairs very carefully.
When Her foot landed on the fifth stare, it creaked loudly, making her halt mid-step. She did not hear anything. No one was coming her way or they may be waiting down the stairs to see and catch her in the act.
Knowing that there was no car left in the compound, she once again started to go down the stairs only to find an empty living room and release a sigh of relief.
No one was really here.
She made her way to the basement to which she remembered the way, She found the door and the stairs that led downstairs. It was a narrow entryway but Victoria did not have many options when it came to it.
Upon reaching the lowest stair What is the staircase, the narrow hallway widened a little. The same hallway that she had seen a thousand in her mind after she had gotten assaulted on the wall that she was standing right opposite.
Forcing her eyes to turn away, she found the keys to the room on the small wooden table kept just after the staircase. At least they were making things easy for her.
She opened the room and since there was no light, she kept the door open.
"You?" The boy rasped out, blinking his eyes to adjust to the light.
That was when Victoria noticed his face. The last time she had seen him, he looked pale white but now he had different shades of bruises forming on his face.
Shaking her head, she focused on the task. "Here," she hurried and needed in front of him, "eat this."
He frowned at the sight of a chicken leg and a muffin. "Wh-what?"
"Listen, I don't have much time. Just eat it and after that, you have to take antibiotics because you cannot take the freaking antibiotics without eating anything. So eat it, and then I have to rush back so that I don't get caught!"
Breathlessly staring at him after her front, she placed the chicken leg right in front of his lips. "Eat it, okay? I dare to do this but not enough to get caught."
His lips opened slightly before he took a large inhale of the smell and his teeth bit into the flesh. Tearing it away and chewing it she could see how his body sagged in relief.
This food was hardly enough for him but that was the only thing Victoria could afford to give him.
The rest of the food that had been given to her, mashed potatoes gravy, and rice was going to leave behind Something on the plate and if she gave it all to him it would be obvious that she did not eat it. She could always place the chicken leg and the wrapper of the muffin back on the plate.
When he finished the chicken, she readily placed the muffin in front of him.
As he took the last bite and chewed it, Victoria unscrewed the cap of the bottle and placed the antibiotic in front of his lips before giving him a few sips of the water.
"Good?"
He nodded, "yeah."
Okay, then. She got up from the kneeling position and walked back to the door. As much as she hated it, she had to lock him here again.
"Why'd y-you come back?"
Victoria stopped.
Yes, why did she come back? Why would she think of him when she had the option of escaping through the stylist?
Why the hell would she ask for antibiotics when she could have asked for a cell phone?
She looked back at him.
"I'm not your friend," he rasped out, " Family, nothing. I am nothing to you. So, why did you come back?"
Because even though her mother was not liable to work after the 14-hour shift the hospital made her work for Vera, no matter what always volunteered to help people.
"Humanity," Victoria answered, "because I have the power to help you."
Turning around to return to the door, she smiled at him, "I'll come back when I can."
