Helen quickly shook her head. "Dad, no. This isn't your fault. You fought for me, for our family. It was his choice to betray us, and it was my choice to survive it."

Derrick sighed, his fingers closing around hers. "And survive you did… my strong girl." He turned back to Magnar. "And you? What's your stake in all this? A man like you doesn't get involved without a reason."

Magnar didn't hesitate. He reached out, taking Helen's hand in his.

"Helen deserves justice. She deserves peace. And she deserves someone who will make sure she never has to fight alone again." His voice was steady, certain. "That's what I'm here for."

Derrick's expression softened. He looked between them for a long moment before finally letting out a small, approving hum.

"Then I suppose I can rest easy knowing my daughter has someone worthy beside her."
