Impossible

"Good Morrow your Majesty" said a guard as he walked into the dining room and he immediately bowed before Alaric.

"Good Morrow, you may rise" said Alaric as he turned to look at the guard who had dropped to the ground.

"I am sorry to disturb you both, my King and my Prince" he said as he stood up and bowed at Liam.

"Please do tell me what aches you so that you rushed here in a hurry?" asked Alaric as he looked at the young guard who looked like he was about the same age as his son.

Alaric and Liam were having their breakfast peacefully, but that was until this guard hastily rushed in and interrupted them.

"Your Majesty, My prince" said the Guard as he looked at both Liam and Alaric.

"I am sorry to say that the tidings I bring are not good" he said.

"Do tell me quickly what you mean my boy" said Alaric as he looked worried.

"*Sigh*" said the guard.

"Your Majesty, there is news of a war breaking out in the north of the Kingdom" said the guard.

"Impossible!!" said Alaric in shock.

"I am sorry to say, but that is the truth your Majesty" said the guard.

"It seems that one of the families are starting a revolt against you my king" said the guard.

Alaric sighed, he looked puzzled, this was impossible, the north was one of their strongest capitals, he was sure that this was a coup, because the North Capital had been around well since Wyverdale existed.

He would have believed it if there was a war breaking out in the east seeing as they had just conquered another Kingdom not too long ago, but now in the North?? he was sure that this was just a plan to disrupt the Kingdom.

"But why the north of all capitals??" asked Alaric out loud.

"I am not sure you Majesty" replied the guard.

"But what I am completely sure of is that things have not gone as far as we fear, there is still hope to stop a war from breaking out if an intervention takes place" said the guard.

"Then I must go to the north immediately!" said Alaric.

"Wait, wait, slow down father" said Liam as he finished chewing his food and he used his napkin to wipe his mouth.

"You cannot possibly have plans of going to the north in the condition that you are in" said Liam as he finally said something, he was just observing all this while.

Liam was sure his father was not alright of he thought that he could go to the north at his current age, he was not as young as he used to be, he could not go on long journeys anymore.

From the main capital of Wyverdale to the north was about three days Journey on horse, and considering the weather, Liam was sure that it would take an even longer time, and his father who was in old age could not stand the cold for long.

His father even letting the idea of him journeying to the north cross his mind was just trying to kill himself, did he forget that he was no longer a young man?

"Of course I do my boy, if I do not go then who will?" asked Alaric.

"Father you cannot be serious" said Liam.

"You cannot Journey to the north in your current state, and even much more in this cold weather" said Liam.

"But I cannot send just anyone to the north, we do not know how bad the situation truly is" said Alaric, there was no way he could send one of the duke families, or anyone else, it had to be him and him alone.

"Then I will go father" said Liam

"Send me, I am more than capable to go, I am young and I will know what to do when I get there" said Liam.

Meanwhile the guard was just watching the conversation between the King and his son, and he stayed so quiet that they both forgot that he was still there.

"Are you sure my boy?" asked Alaric.

"The Journey is truly tedious and especially in this weather" said Alaric.

"I can handle it father, I am an able bodied man, and I am young" said Liam.

"You of all people are aware that you cannot just embark on such a journey like that Father" said Liam.

"You are right my boy" said Alaric as he sighed, he truly was too impulsive, unlike Liam who was calculative and he always thought things through, Alaric what he would have done with Liam.

"Of course I am father" said Liam

"So please send me Father" said Liam.

"Alright my boy, you may go" said Alaric as he gave up, he knew that there was no one better to send than his own son, who would be able to handle the situation as soon as he arrived there, after all this was his Kingdom after all.

"Thank you Father" said Liam as he bowed and he sighed internally.

The Journey to the north would take him at least three days in the winter, and he had an appointment with his in laws tomorrow, he was sure that he would not be able to make it, but that was just one of the sacrifices that he had to make as Prince.

Liam had agreed on the plan, he wanted to get back to the capital as quickly as possible, so he decided that going with his horse would be better, he would be lighter, and he would be able to rest at each capital town that he arrived in.

"You there" said Liam as he turned to look at the guard that was just standing there, that he did not know the name off.

"Yes My Prince?" asked the Guard.

"Please tell the workers in the stables to ready my horse, I will be leaving as soon as possible, please make sure to tell them to make my horse as light as possible" said Liam.

"They should make sure to replace his horse shoes and brush his fur" said Liam

"Alright my Prince, I will do that right this moment" said the guard as he bowed and he left immediately, the Prince had made many requests and it would take some time to fulfil them all.

"My son are you sure that you want to leave alone?" asked Alaric.

"Yes father, If I am the only one, I would be my quicker" said Liam.

"As you wish my boy" said Liam

...

Wura was sitting quietly in her room reading her mother was about getting ready to go to town, while Aunt Tessa made her list of ingredients, while her father was in his study.

Everything was nice and peaceful, but that was until something disturbed their peace once again.

In an instant without warning, the sound of a trumpet blowing could be heard from outside, and Wura's eyes went wide, she could recognize that sound from anywhere.

Everyone in the house except the servants came out to find out what was going on outside, while Wura knew that it spelt nothing but doom for her.
