Most important thing

"Then what should we do Mero?" asked Wura, her voice laced heavily with panic, even though she was trying her best not to panic at the moment.

"For now nothing... we do not want to cause an alarm when there is no calid reason to do so." replied Mero.

"For all we know the East might either just be passing through this area, or they might just be spying." said Mero.

"Or maybe they want to attack Windharm again." said Wura.

"I highly doubt that, the town is still in ruins, that is enough to assure them that the town is still deserted, there is nothing for us to worry about, I doubt they would come to the valley except they are really searching for something." said Mero.

"And what if they are searching for something?" asked Wura.

"Then what could they be possibly searching for." asked Mero as Wura gasped, realizing something she had forgotten was a huge possibility.

"What if they finally know that I am not in the camp instead I am here." said Wura as her panic was increasing.

"I doubt that... it is highly unlikely that they would notice you are gone so soon, and even then, what makes them so sure that you would be at Windharm, I believe that this is merely a coincidence, there is nothing to worry about." said Mero as he could see the worry in Wura's eyes.

First she had looked so sad when he had arrived and now she looked extremely worried because of the news he had given her. This was why he did not like to tell her things like this until he had everything under control, but he promised her, and she needed to know and be on alert as much as he was.

"Olamide is a sly man, he has no regard for anyone except himself, who knows how he gets his information? But I am sure of one thing, this is no coincidence." said Wura.

"As right as you may be, there is still no need to raise an alarm, especially a false one... for one the guards I sent to watch that area will be the first to know if anything strange happens." said Mero.

"And for that reason, I do not think you should worry yourself about this." said Mero as Wura sighed, she knew that Mero was right, but she could not help but worry, all that was on her mind now was nothing but worry.

"There are still so many important things that you want to do." said Mero as he figured that the best way to stop Wura from worrying would be to let her do something else.

"For example, did you not say that you wanted to visit those harmed during the attack?" asked Mero as Wura nodded.

"Now is the perfect time to go, before it gets too hot in the afternoon, I will take you there now." said Mero as Wura looked at him.

"Right now?" asked Wura as she could not help but be weary of Mero's eagerness to change her focus, it made her feel as if things were even worse than she thought they were.

"Yes, you said you had many things in mind to do today, and I want to help you do those things, you also said that you have some ideas to discuss with me right?" asked Mero as if Wura was in any other mood than her panicked state, she would have narrowed her eyes at him.

Mero being supportive was one thing, but being overly eager and repeating her words earlier word for word, she was starting to worry even more. On a normal day Mero was fond of hiding things from her. But after their discussion yesterday, he promised to stop hiding things from her.

So Wura wanted to trust him, she wanted to trust him so much, so she decided to, although she still felt troubled on the inside.

"Alright Mero, you are right, we should go now before it gets too hot." she replied, she tried to add a smile to her words but it was difficult, her frown would just show even more if she did.

"Alright, after you." he said as he moved away and cleared the path for her as she looked at him before proceeding to walk ahead of him as he followed behind her.

They both walked in utter silence as while Wura was still worried, Mero was thinking of ways to take her mind of what she was worried about.

Then suddenly Wura remembered something that made her gasp internally.

Mero who was watching her intently was quick to notice the sudden change of expression on her face.

"Is something the matter Wura?" he asked as Wura turned to look at him.

"Well yes, we are going to visit the sick and the injured and yet we are going empty handed." said Wura as Mero looked at her weirdly.

"Is that really a problem?" he asked in uncertainty as Wura stopped walking and she gasped, looking at him as if he had said the worst thing in the world.

"Mero, yes, yes it is really a problem, a huge problem." said Wura.

"My mother taught me that it is rude to go and visit those sick or injured without bringing them a gift to wish them well." said Wura as Mero did not seem to see the big deal there.

"But does it really matter? After all your words of well wishes should be more than enough." said Mero.

"Well sure, yes your words should be enough, but still, people need to know that they are thought of and cared for, a gift will do them no harm, as a matter of fact, it will raise their spirits." said Wura as she smiled.

"We all need a bit of cheering up some times in our lives." said Wura as she smiled, saying something that Mero totally agreed with.

"That is true." he said as he smiled at her, liking the fact that she was smiling again.

When she was sad, it was like the entire world was sad, but when she was happy and she smiled so brightly like she was doing now, it felt like everything was at peace.

Mero especially felt some type of peace whenever he was with Wura, he felt at ease, that was something he found difficult to feel naturally on his own.

"You see, so that is why I am sad that I did not bring any gifts along with me for them." said Wura.

"If you ask me Wura, I do not think that is the most important thing." said Mero.

"I think the most important thing is that they know how much you care for them and how much you wish them well." said Mero.

"How much you wish for them to get well soon and how much you feel bad for what happened to them, to me that is the most important thing and not the gifts." said Mero as Wura looked at him.

She knew he was right, and how could she argue with him when he was speaking so gently and softly with her, and he was looking at her with that calm, understanding look in his eye.

That was the look that she loved to see continually, and not that grouchy, grumpy upset face of his that he put up whenever he was angry.

Truth be told he looked so much more happier and younger with a smile on his face.

"You are right Mero, the gift is not all that important." she replied with a smile that reciprocated the gentle smile that he had on his face.

"It is the thought that counts." said Wura with a smile as Mero felt his heart skip a beat. A strange phenomenon that he had never felt in his life.

The smile on his face faltered for a moment as he wondered just what he was feeling? What was this deep, unmentionable, indescribable feeling he was feeling at the moment?

It felt so good and yet he knew that he was supposed to feel bad about it... about this, there was a deep contrast between his mind and his heart, he did not know what he was feeling, he did not know what to call what he was feeling, but he could hear warning bells ringing in his head.

"Well we should continue on our way now, I still have something to discuss with you later." said Wura as her soft voice pulled Mero out of his deep thoughts as he was faced with reality once more.

"Yes..." he said as he slightly shook his head, feeling strange, but there was no time to dwell on whatever these feelings he had were called because Wura already started walking without him and regardless of whatever daze he seemed to be in at the moment his duty was to protect Wura and no matter what he would do just that.
