Good Egg or Bad Egg

"Why didn't you just follow the exercise. What if that blew up in your face" Mr Bink gruffed, shaking his flask and trying to find a lick of alcohol left.

"You're a curious one, eh, Well all your classmates were gone. I almost had to beat that spiky-eyebrowed one to leave. Annoying little urchin" He sighed giving up shaking his flask before sitting on his desk.

"I'm sorry sir, I got more interested in my own curiosities and forgot about the assignment. I'll do it right away"

"Why didn't you at least complete the assignment, at the very least." Mr bink asked.

"I'm not sure, I was preoccupied."

"Yeah preoccupied killing yourself. Doing what anyway.

"I already tried moving Elo into my eyes to get a feel of controlling it, so I wanted to try it outside my body" Junya explained. " I wanted to move it around, kinda like spinning but in order to do that I had to add more Elo from around me. I thought I was controlling it but I was really moving naturally, after that I couldn't control it and then you came and helped me."

"Hm, that's a pretty dangerous thing to do." He drummed his finger int the table. "You shouldn't go off on your agendas during the middle of class. It was dangerous and could have harmed your fellow classmates and damaged the classroom. This class is not for that either"

"I'm sorry sir, I never really meant harm"

"Eh, I knew what you were doing. In fact, it's not uncommon, people really like showing off."

"I wasn't sir, I was experimen-"

"Whatever you say, I actually have another reason for letting you play around and stay here." Mr Bink stated. "It relates to what I recalled when I first met the class. I remember asking you whether you were good or bad, and you gave me no answer"

"Hm? I recall something about my mother, but she is dead. So if not that, then no, I'm sorry"

"That's fine, what didn't you understand in what I was trying to say?"

Junya thought back and finally put the voice to what he heard just now.

"You might have said something like that, but you never spoke to me."

"Oh, well I might have been drunk"

'You think?' Junya mentally remarked.

"Well it all comes down to this, are you good? Or bad…"

A silence of confusion occurred.

"I, uh, think I'm pretty good sir," Junya said unsurely.

"Is that because you want to be? Or are you being forced? My first impression of you was the same as a student of mine, Amus, he was dull and rather cynical toward everyone else. It was the first time I had felt anything other than pity for someone."

Mr Bink closed his eyes and recounted his memory.

"His childhood and parents were stolen when during the Eve of Chaos. After Guram was formed he was left wandering throughout the look in his eyes. I noticed him at a bar I often went digging through the trash. After a few more months of seeing him, I bought him his first real meal.

He never spoke much, I asked him about his past but he told me to fuck off, hehehe, to think. Someone who bought you your first meal and you tell them that."

Junya raised his brows in surprise. He noticed Mr Bink looked oddly sentimental, before getting a grip on his expression.

"I normally wouldn't care, but there was something I saw within him that was unsettling"

"Unsettling?"

"Yeah, I have gone on 3 Roams, I credit my intuition on the danger to my survival" He reached for his flask, then remembered it was empty, after which he continued.

"The look in his eyes was filled with animosity like he had a vendetta against the world, even the people around him. It wasn't normal for someone his age "

"So what happened"

"I referred him to school and trained him here, he learned to open up a little bit and learned to differentiate good and bad. I gave him my sword which he might be using now. I haven't seen him in some time, I heard he came back a while back, yet the ungrateful urchin never even bothered to visit me."

"Well did something happen"

"Hm? Yeah, in his 3rd year, we went to a Military base. There, a certain Captain Li badmouthed the person who saved him I guess. He rampaged and even killed his son who was just a classmate. It was a weird situation and people are forbidden from talking much about what happened so I can't say much."

Suddenly there were more than a few questions Junya wanted to ask.

'I think it's fine If I tell him Amus brought me. He even trained him so I doubt he will tell everyone. Besides he is too busy chugging alcohol to bother yapping.'

"Sir, you should know something." Junya then explained in minimal detail is taken from the forest after he went crazy because of his blessing. He refrained from explaining too much detail since he wanted to veil his unhinged blessing from everyone for fear of what they might think.

Only in the sense, that he lost his mind, nothing else.

"Hm? So you're the reason he came here. That's weird, I never heard him not killing something. Are you Jesus or something? Maybe even god…"

"I-"

"Dammit! Such an unsightly human I am, forgive me! Use me to your will while I repent!"

"Well, I don't really know. I think it might have something to do with my mom. Harriet Wotanbe tho…"

After Junya said these words, Mr Bink looked at him blankly. "Hahaha! I knew I saw that hair somewhere, only in pictures though, still, the resemblance is uncanny."

Mr Bunk continued. "Sorry about before. I never meant to put you in an awkward situation"

"Don't mind, It's an old wound…"

"Well, that leads one to ask, what is your blessing?" Mr Bink finally asked, which Junya quickly shut down.

"I don't tell anyone"

"Have you told anyone?" Still, Mr Bink persisted.

"No"

"Well, I guess there is no helping it. If they say it's fine to not tell anyone." Mr Bink stopped his perusal for a moment.

"Is it a Spirit blessing? Tell me that much"

"Yes…"

Mr Bink nodded before getting back on track. "Whatever it might be, you give me the same vibe as Amus. It's as if you are something bad waiting to happen, that's why I'm here to ask you are you good or bad?"

Junya took his words into consideration."I, I'm good when I'm in my sound mind."

Mr Bink nodded at his honesty. "Well, I appreciate your honesty. Yet that's not the answer I'm looking for."

Junya was confused while Mr Bink continued.

"I would much rather you be bad. Students like that are much more interesting. Like that Wrenlow lad, he seems fine and dandy, but the bad eggs are a lot more fun to train. Being righteous is good also and I'm glad people are like that, yet there will always need to be someone who can carry out the dirty obligations. Making heads roll and killing en masse, as long as you deem it fit, seems much more interesting.

On top of that, there aren't much more people that can do that."

"Sir are you saying you want me to be a bad egg."

"Yes, but for the right reasons. Being bad is objective, toward a robber, stopping his plans would be bad. Yet burying a million paedophiles would be bad also, yet wouldn't that be good for society?"

"Sir what are you getting at…"

"I can't say much more, but think about it. Become the dark horse that will carry the burden of justice, the choice is yours."
