Chapter 29: Couchtalk (Part 1)

Julia's POV

Julia opened the door for them. She and Cecilia went home after her ma arrived at the hospital and they swipe their position to taking care of Mariano. Julia sat on the couch, then lay on the couch staring at their room ceiling. They decide to move to Marco's room and modernized everything.

"D-do you want a coffee or tea?" Julia looks at Cecilia, who was standing next to the couch.

Julia sat and tapping a seat next to her. "No, I don't want both." Cecilia sat next to her. Julia exhales and holds her hand. "H-how's your cosa notra?" Julia put her arms around her waist and leans her head on her shoulder.

"Worst," Julia closed her eyes, "Chester and his fiance lend money to Salvatore, and they were reluctant to pay their debt. One of my henchmen reported it to me." She looks at Cecilia.

Her face turned into pale after she report to her. Julia wouldn't tell Cecilia about the beating. "Did they beat him?" Julia sighed. She already expects that Cecilia will ask about him.

Julia shook her head. "I told my henchmen not to beat him," she said. Julia stood up and walked to the kitchen to grab a glass of tap water.

"I'm sorry," Julia put her glass on the kitchen counter and took a deep breath.

"No, you don't need to." She wants to kill Chester so badly, but she couldn't do it. People in front of her was her main reason she couldn't do it. Julia embracing her wife and stroke her hair. "We can take it slow," she said in a silvery tone.

Cecilia lifts her head and their eye meet. Julia rubbed her cheek with her thumb and when she was about to kiss her, they heard a bell. Cecilia let go of her embrace and walked to the door and followed by Julia. "You can take rest, Julia. You're tired." She said.

Julia shook her head, gave her a thin smile. "I'm getting used to it, don't worry." Julia opened the door, and they saw Maria and Melania smiled at them.

"Nonna!" they said in sync. Julia opened the door for them and let them get into their room and gave the couple a pie and a bottle of wine.

"Do you want a coffee, tea, or anything else?" Cecilia asked them as Julia closed the door. Julia grabbed the pie and the wine.

"We just stopping by," Julia joined her wife as she brings a jar of cookies.

"How's Mariano, Julia?" Julia sat next to Cecilia and rubbed her wife's hand.

"He got fever, and he said his stomach was still in pain," she said, "and I hope he will recover soon." Julia heard a barking sound from outside.

Julia stood up, and she looks at her wife. "I will take the dog for a night walk," Cecilia simply nods. They did not talk until Julia closed the door.

Cecilia's POV

Cecilia took a deep breath. She knows about what they want to ask. "How's the progress?" Cecilia shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't know, Nonna." Cecilia hunched. "I feel like I don't deserve her," she pondered.

"It's because of Chester?" Cecilia sighed. No one talking except the sound of crickets and wind from the outside. Cecilia opened the jar and offers them a cookie.

"Julia is the best among mafioso, Cecilia. Even she is a Lady of Salvatore, she wouldn't dare to hurt anyone just because of her personal life." Maria agrees with her daughter.

"Also, she tries to be patient, Cecilia." Maria adds. Cecilia exhales and, looking at the window.

"Did she tell both of you?" They shook their head in sync.

"We know you better than her," replied Maria savagely. "Besides, she's not a type who will snitch like Rico and Chester," Cecilia exhales.

Cecilia hunched and hugged the pillow and took a deep breath. What her Nonna said was right. Julia didn't have a gut to tell her problem to another person. She knows who should she talked to, and not to talk to. She bites her lips and pondered. "We love you, Cecilia. We don't want you to get hurt anymore. Let's we opened a new page. Forget the past." Melania sat next to her and reassure her granddaughter.

Maria took a deep breath as she reminiscing her times with her boyfriend without realising a tears stream down her face. She abruptly wiped it and took a deep breath. "If you make someone suffer today. Your conscience will punish you. Don't hurt anyone." Cecilia furrowed her eyebrow.

"Did you read Verses of Happiness, Nonna?" Maria sighed.

"It's not a book what I mean, Cecilia." She snarled. "It's about you hurting Julia's feeling!" Cecilia was silent and she realized what she did to her. It's not fair for Julia either to get hurt every time she mentions Chester. She wants her.

They heard opened door, and Julia brings a four packs large pizza and Max dry himself. "Bark! Bark!" Julia put the pizza on the kitchen countertop and she picked the plates. "You guys stay for dinner?" Maria and Melania nods.

Melania took a glance at Maria. "we stay for the dinner." Julia nods and prepares the table for them to eat dinner. They observed Julia's movement, and she looks at Cecilia, who was deep in her thoughts.

Max approached Cecilia and licks her fingers. "Bark! Bark!" Max wiggling his tail. "He wants you to pet him." Maria said. Cecilia pet his head and he sat on the floor.

A phone ring heard to their ears. Julia approached her wife. "Babe, can you answer this phone?" Cecilia furrowed her brow.

"I…" her words cut by Melania's gripping her hand.

"It's my mom, and dinner is ready." Cecilia picked her cell phone and answered the call.

"Hello?" They walked to the dining table and seat next to each other. Cecilia sighed, "okay, I will tell Julia." She hung up the call and gave her cell phone.

"You not drink?" Julia shook her head.

"I'm sober for 6 months," Maria nods.

Melania pulled her chair to get near the table. "So, do you have tradition?" Cecilia took a glance at her wife.

"Yes," she said, "let's we pray before the dinner starts," Julia closed her eyes and preached. "Bless us, O Lord, and these the gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen." She signing of the cross and took a deep breath.

Julia opened the boxes and let them choose what they want to eat. "Julia, we should get back to the hospital again. Your ma has an urgent business." Cecilia said as she took a first bite.

She exhales. Maria and Melania looking at Julia. "Are you tired, dear?" Julia shook her head.

"I-I'm fine! Don't worry," Julia eats the pizza, and she heard a call. This time from one of the corrupt senate who wants her help. She rejects her call, and she turned off the phone.

Maria, who observed her great-granddaughter-in-law, turned off her phone during dinner. She pours the wine and asks, "no work at night?" Julia shook her head.

Julia took a slice of pizza and put on some hot sauce. "I'm moving the schedule." She said.
