Chapter 62 - Precise Prediction

Sonja was having a big headache on handling this player. They had run background checks, brain wave pattern check of him and all the people he had contact with, directly or indirectly and all came back clean. This person had claimed close to 500 claims till date. If not for the AI fixing few of the claims with lesser odds, the amount this person earned would be enough to buy a town.

The worrying part was he was becoming more precise in his prediction, thus AI was giving more odds. And this person was becoming more and more daring each day, placing more and more amount as bet.

They had restricted him in many ways yet he continued to make predictions and place bets. His winnings had been converted to token so that he could not sell it in those 3rd party sites or use it inside the game but this genius used the token for betting next time.

Even if half of predictions he made turned true, the amount he would win would be astronomical and beyond her level.

She hated failing. She especially hated failing without learning why? Loss is loss, at least she wanted to learn fand make up from her losses. Situation like this... frustrated her. With heavy heart, she forwarded details and investigations done to her superior, one of the game devloper cum owner.

Phineas Fletcher. As soon as the boss saw the name, he understood the situation.

Once he was famous. He was a star player, pride of his nation, atleast on paper. His time went out when newer generation of players flooded eSports community with youth, passion, money and background. He merely became a prop, then...a nothing.

Life pulled out all the passion he had for eSports, especially after he got cheated, demoted, scorned and finally dismissed.(A/N- this also reminds me of a novel, can't remember its name though! Oh, what the heck! Most of MC in novels have nearly same background story)

He was a genius but his qualification was his experience. In the present world, where one boasted of multiple degrees from famous universities or internships in top MNCs, he was odd one out. A person who could not go to college, who played to earn money, who played because he believed in the game.

Even the boss had talked to him trying to pull him into the game from company side, but Phin had not agreed. In the beginning, because he had a fair and nice work which he had joined recently and he did not want to give it up. Then... something outrageous happened and he was ready to try this job too but he gave up after learning he could not play the game for long time. The game developing teams could not play, this was standard procedure to ensure that they don't break the curve, yet such basic thing had to be explained to Phin.

Phin lived for gaming. Look, he was still playing though his situation had turned bad. He was fighting big clubs and guilds directly and indirectly too, yet he could not stop playing. Boss respected such dedicated people. Respect was respect. Dedication was dedication. However, game bottom line was bottom line too. So, the boss called personally to deal with him.

Phin was same old easy guy out in real life, easy to talk, easy to chat. He rejected overtures made when it came to gaming though.

" Look mate, I understand your point but you have to look into my situation too. I am not doing illegal. If your forum did not have such part, someone else would have started such bets, that's the reason why started them yourselves. I need money, like desperately and this is one of the legit ways to earn it. If you stop me, I will just sell the details to different guilds and clubs and such. If they don't buy it, I'll just put it online. ....."

The talk was a failure. The only positive thing was that if he keep post as hidden version and accept very late payment options from game. He would use the vouchers given as bet payment to use for another bet (as he was doing till now) and use it only in game payment options after 6months (what the boss wanted in minimum). And the boss learnt that sometimes being a genius is hereditary. The predictions were actually fine-tuned by Phin's brother. That's why the predictions were becoming more and more precise. Anyway, this episode would no longer cause disruption in game balance and that was enough for now.

And thanks to the tip Phin had given, he was going to update payment methods for subscribtion. For first 3 months, gamers could pay in cash or coins every 10 days.

And, he got blessed by millions of players who were getting palpitations daily to the thought of losing 8000 credits at month beginning. They joined the game to earn money. And more than 90% of people did not believe in adage of paying money to earn even more money. With this update and confirmation by gaming company, they would not have to run around trying to make sure atleast subscription amount is present in bank account.

These people went on happily to massacre monsters, raid dungeons and even died happily. The amount the company got due to this exuberance was astronomical to say the least.

That was because there was a delayed effect of this update. Death contracts, dungeon clearance rate contracts. The guilds and as such paid money in cash or coins to independent players to pioneer new map regions or dungeons instead of guild people.

The one who got struck was Saachi and Co, because not many of his college buddies were pushing out coins to earn credits.
