Try wearing a piano

"No way!!!" I said to Corianne with my eyes widened with disbelief.

While trying to swallow her laughter, "I knew it!!!!" Aurum's fist pounded on the table, as her shoulders were still shaking.

"How did that happen?"

Being the only sensible one in this conversation, I asked the questions that needed to be asked.

"I don't know." Corianne shrugged, seeming uninterested, "I opened the door and saw a skunk staring at me."

"Ouuu, I would have flipped!!!"

The whole neighborhood would have known that a skunk was in my car just from my screams. Although, I'm pretty certain you are not supposed to scream if you see a skunk. But at that moment, who cares???

"Who told you she didn't?" Cheeky Aurum's shoulder shook with laughter, as she deadpanned at me.

Corianne ignored her and continued to tell her story, "Man, it sprayed the inside of my car multiple times." Her nose scrunched up in disgust as though the memory was freshly imprinted in her memories, "That happened prior to the day we went to the movies."

Well... That explains a lot. I remember complaining about the smell of her car. With good reasons too.

"You didn't have it washed!!!??"

This time Aurum's deadpanned expression was directed at Coriane and not me.

"I did. I took it to the car wash. That didn't do anything to help." Her words were punctuated with a sigh of exhaustion. At the moment, I almost felt bad for her. I could tell that he had already put a lot of effort into it.

Aurum made a gagging sound saying, "Ewwww. I want to throw up in my mouth."

"Try not to actually puke," I chimed at her a little too excitedly, "The floors are shining." I wasn't kidding. I could see my future just by looking down. It was that clean.

"You forgot to mention that people eat here." Corianne clicked her tongue, shaking her head at me in disappointment. It's not like I couldn't see her trying to suppress a smile though.

"Yeah, and that too."

"But it smells better now anyways.", Cory said somewhat convincingly. "I had it washed again yesterday."

My sister said in one of the most indifferent tones ever, "Good for you."

I and Aurum exchanged knowing glances that said we will not be willing to check if indeed it smells better today. I'll rather save my nose from the possible trauma.

Better to be safe than sorry right?

Since we were done with the conversation about skunks, Cory was able to ask something else, "What are you guys doing here?"

"Working." "Being creative."We answered at the same time without missing a beat.

"I didn't expect Makena to come."

A sly smirk formed on her lips as she turned to look at me.

"I've gotten over him!"I said defensively. A little too defensive because the pitch in my voice earned us some weary looks.

Aurum said a little too smugly for my liking, "Then stop glancing around."

I hadn't even realized I was doing that!!!!

"I'm checking for our waiter.." I rolled my eyes at her, trying to mirror the same smugness, "Don't be silly."

"Huh-uh, I'm the silly one." She was still very much smug, much to my dismay. I wasn't even spared a glance. All her attention remained on her laptop.

"I'm over him. I came here the other day, and I didn't bother about whether he was in or not."

Which is true. Depending on your definition of the word "truth".

"That's because you knew he wasn't in. I told you I worked a shift with him that night. Obviously, he would be in his house, sleeping."

Of course, if anyone was going to see through my half-assed truth, it will be my sister.

"Aha!!!" Corianne curved her mouth to form a smirk, wiggling her brows at me.

With her expression, someone will think that she had just discovered a gold mine. But nope, just my best friend teaming up with my sister.

"That's not true." I shook my head at both of them, "You are both exaggerating." My dramatic self just had to include my tongue click.

"You know Makena had managed to avoid him every single time right?"

"So pathetic."

"Ikr"

The both of them went on, completely ignoring me. I'm a lot of things, but invincible isn't one of them I'm sure.

"I am not pathetic. I'm actually doing him a favor."

"Really?" Aurum wagged her brows at me, "What favor?"

"I don't want to him to feel awkward around me. So, I'm avoiding having a conversation with him."

When you are stuck with these two, you'll automatically learn to come up with excuses on the spot. Just like me.

"Is that what makes you sleep at night?" My sister mused but didn't wait for my answer before continuing... "If it is, then go with it.

Cory scrunched her nose at me, "Here I was thinking you were pathetic before. Your explanation makes it way worse."

"I am not pathe-"

I wasn't able to finish my sentence because the waiter from earlier came back with our order, balanced in his arms.

Smiling brightly, "Thank you." I appreciated once had set down our orders.

He didn't bother speaking, but nodded in acknowledgment. His legs were already taking him away when Cory spoke up.

"Hi, can I get the sweetest thing on your menu?" She puckered her mouth at him, as though deep in thought.

"Huh??"

Perplexion was etched on every inch of his face as he turned to stare back and forth between me and Corianne.

"That's how they order" Aurum was the one to explain, "Every single time."

"Yeah, that's what she got. I should bring the same for you?" He was able to ask once he snapped out of his deja vu trance.

"Yes yes. I'll like that."

With that settled, I focused on sharing my good news with Cory, allowing every form of bubbliness to radiate around me.

"Anyways, Corianne, let me tell you about my new big idea." When saying `big ideaʼ, I did it with jazz hands. All for the dramatics.

"What's it about?" She asked, furrowing her brows at how giddy I suddenly became.

"Getting rid of those divorce outfits. Sounds nice aye?"

I even wiggled my brows at her, but this woman dared to respond with her brows still very much furrowed.

"Then you wouldn't have any suitable clothing."

"No." Breathe in... And out... "I want to start wearing clothes that reflect my personality," I explained as I would to a child, doing my best not to facepalm.

She stroked her nonexistent mustache before saying, "That would involve sombreros, ballet slippers, and once or twice you'll need to wear a piano." A peal of laughter erupted around me, as even Aurum couldn't contain her cackle.

"You are so unsupportive." I really wanted to glare at her, but I started grinning ear to ear instead.

To be fair, she was making a valid point. Especially with that piano thingy.

"That's why you love us."The narcissist in my sister raised its head as she shrugged it off, "It's hard not to."

"Cheers to that."

If we had wine glasses, then the clinking of our cups would be drowned in the sound of the usual chatter around the room.
