Raccoon and Wolf?

In the deepest and the darkest of the woods, a heavy panting and hurried steps were heard.

In the middle of the night, with nothing that could be seen for as far as a naked eye could see, a raccoon was running with the help of her nocturnal eyes.

If one were to see closely, one could easily find that the running raccoon was expecting. But for a normal raccoon, the size of its stomach was unusually big and noticeable.

A normal raccoon would definitely not have such a big stomach no matter how many babies she's carrying in her womb.

Despite her heavy stomach, the raccoon did not slow down as she ran in the woods as fast as she could. On her way, she got hurt by many twigs, branches and also thorns that were lying around.

No matter how hurt she got or how many injuries she received, she did not care nor did her speed slow down.

After running for a long time, she couldn't bear the pain that started from her stomach. She slowed down before searching for a place to hide. She silently looked around before taking a hide in the hollow trunk of a huge tree.

As soon as she laid down, the babies started coming out making her skin tear apart. The mother raccoon wanted to shout and cry but she knew that she couldn't make any sounds that could alert her enemies.

Hence she did not dare to make a sound as she bore all the pain in herself while giving birth to a small little raccoon, the first born, around the size of a small chicken egg.

The mother's eyes were filled with tears but there was also an immense amount of warmth and love in them when she looked at her first born baby.

Before she could register each and every feature of her first child, the second baby started coming out.

Unlike the first child, the second child is surprisingly not a raccoon. Instead it was a wolf cub.

She would be the first and the last raccoon in the world that had ever given birth to a wolf. A wolf, whose favorite snack is a raccoon.

Looking at the wolf cubs that were coming out of her, the mother had many emotions twirling in her eyes.Once she was done giving birth to all, she looked at all her children. A total of five, of which except the first one, all the others were wolves.

The mother couldn't help but shed tears looking at them. Since they were her kids, she would love them. But still, she also felt a thorn stuck in her heart when she looked at the wolf cubs.

Then again when she looked at the raccoon baby, she couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

She opened her mouth and used her tongue to lick all her kids one after another, cleaning their bodies and also simultaneously showing her love towards them.

All her kids looked back at her with their eyes almost closed showing happiness from her actions. Maybe because they are not normal from the time of their birth, all the kids were already able to stand on their feet even though their limbs were not strong enough to take more than a step at a time.

Before she could give them more of her motherly warmth, she heard the sounds of a bunch of feet approaching towards them.

The mother did all her best to hide away all her kids behind her back, deeper into the tree trunk, while she pushed them further so that she could also hide from the incoming enemies.

But to her failure, the enemies had already caught her scent as they were already standing in front of the tree in the blink of an eye and were looking down at the weak mother and the cubs.

The raccoon mother's eyes turned vigilant with a hint of hatred while all the kids were looking at the intruder with their newly born clear pair of eyes with intrigue.

They blinked their eyes while looking at the strong and mighty looking wolf that was standing in front of them.

The cruel look on the wolf's face tried to turn warm as he just saw the newborns, "Well, well, such lovely kids you've got there, Lily. Let me see. Let me see."

He took a step forward to take a closer look at the kids but the mother stood up with her weak body like a strong shield that would protect her tower until her last breath.

The eyes of the wolf that just tried to turn warm instantly turned cold seeing her action. He was angry as a growl let out of his lips, "Lily."

"Stay away from my kids," The mother spoke for the first time. Though she was weak after just giving birth, her voice was filled with her strong determination to protect her kids from the person in front of her at all costs.

"Okay, if a fight is what you always wanted, then I will give you one," The wolf replied as it took a couple of steps back. Though this action did not give any relief to the mother but instead gave her more fright.

The wolf cubs were looking at the wolf in front of them with interest. But on the contrary, the raccoon baby was the only one that sensed the fear in his mother.

Under the raccoon kit's scared eyes, the huge wolf suddenly jumped at their mother with his huge fangs on display like a predator that was ready to devour his prey as a huge thunder was heard from the dark sky above with the sudden onslaught of a heavy rain.
