Kitori receives a gift

Once back at Maria's house they gather in the sitting room. Maria has the butler bring her a box from her husband's office.

"In this box is all that my husband brought from Japan when he escaped. He had wonderful memories and told me if I ever had the chance to meet anyone from Japan to send these items back to his friend. In all the years he was alive he never was able to return and we never had any visitors that could take these back. " Maria opens the wooden box. Inside is a compass , photos, a pocket watch , a crystal necklace, a silk kimono and a stack of letters.

Maria hands Shiro the stack of letters .

"These he wrote to your grandfather. Even when he was ready to die he still wrote to him. He said they were brothers of the heart and that he wanted him to know he found happiness. The necklace was given to him by this man." Maria points to the image of Kitori in the photo.
