Chapter 1: League of Hawkshaw

Shin wakes up in a white room. He rubbed his eyes because of blurriness. When he can finally see things clearly, his gaze landed down on the girl beside her.

"What the heck!" he screams, and fell down from the bed.

"Ow." he grunted in pain when his face bumped. The girl wakes up and found him down the floor.

"What 'ya doin' down there?" the girl with a golden hair asked.

That's when he remembered something.

"'Ya know you shouldn't move like that when your nostrils still injured."

Blood suddenly ooze down from the floor. Shin touched his nose and found that it was bleeding.

He stared at the blood again and again, and screams. "AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!"

"Mr. Wayne! Get back to your bed!" the nurse shouted.

"You can go out now. But please remember that DON'T LET YOUR NOSE BUMPED INTO ANY HARD THINGS! Your nose will slowly heal within 3 weeks if you apply the medicine I gave you and follow the instructions. Don't be so hard hea—"

Shin raised his right hand. "Fine. Fine. Fine."

"Then, come to me anytime! I'm always available."

He just nodded bluntly at the nurse and walked out. Where could be his dorm anyway? He blacked out earlier and forgot to ask the interviewers about his dorm number.

"Moshi moshi." the golden-haired girl suddenly pop out from nowhere.

"Wah!" he almost got a heart attack because of the shock. "What do you need this time?!"

'This girl always disappear out of a sudden but also appear out of nowhere! Is this girl is a superhuman or something? Tsk. Tsk. I'll just not be surprised if she also appear in my dreams.' - he asked in his mind.

"Grumpy!" the girl take a step back. "Hot-headed Grumpy!"

Shin was embarrassed when the other students looked at them. He imaginary do face-palming.

After seconds, the golden-haired girl walked first. "I'll be guiding you to your dorm."

Shin just shrugged his shoulders. This girl seems weird. But anyways, starting this day, he'll surely enjoy attending classes.

Shin wandered his eyes. The hallways are neat and clean. There's no dust and dirt that can be found on the floor. The lights are complete, not like the previous crumpled school he attended. He observed the students, buildings, dorms, and it was all perfectly elegant. Well, maybe rumors are right that Elton High is a perfect combination of a castle.

"Kit! Thank you! Thank you for bringing justice for my friend!" a student suddenly blocked their way and lowered down her head while crying.

"If it wasn't for you, Kent shouldn't be able to—"

"I'm just doing it for fun. No need to thank me."

"But—"

"Don't make me repeat what I said."

The student bit her lips before bowing and walking away. Shin feels shivers around his spines.

What did just happened?

Did this golden-haired girl he thought weird is being scared by someone?

"Sorry about that. Let's head this way."

He just let out a deep sigh. Yeah, whatever this girl's nature is what he don't care about.

Wait..

About that...

"Is there something happened in here earlier?" he asked.

"Yeah." Kit paused. "That student's friend earlier who named Kent died in their dorm."

Shin nodded twice as if he just realize something.

"So you took an action in that, what's your rank?"

Kit stopped from walking and crossed her arms. "Out of 1051 students in E.H, I ranked 99th."

Shin almost blurted out laughing, but he quickly covers his mouth. "Seriously..."

Kit glared at Shin. "Don't laugh grumpy! At least I reached this so far. Moreover, you should worry about yours because you ranked 1051st!"

Kit's right. He's the newcomer this year so he's still in the lowest rank. He heard that once every winter season, Elton High will eliminate those students who ranked 101st below.

That means he should need to climb up in 100th rank in order to achieve what he wants.

Because he didn't enrolled in E.H just to solve cases.

He enrolled to find her long-lost sister who vanished inside this school.

"What's your name?" Shin asked. He planned something long time ago. But he wasn't sure if he can success his goals only by himself.

"Huh?! Why'd you ask that?!" — Kit.

But forming a league with Kit isn't a good idea. Well, as long as they can help each other, his plan will surely succeed.

"Anyways, I don't care about your name. As long as you'll help me, we can create a better alliance."

Kit's expression was priceless. Its as if it's her first time to get invited by someone to form a league with her. Kit Lei was called 'all-for-nothing' by the school because she just do investigations for fun. Who knows someone might come to her life to invite her? She's absolutely glorious!

"Oh man! That really makes me exuberant! Of course, let's form a league!"

League. That's what they called for the students who formed an alliance to help each other to rise their rank or to solve cases together. However, if you aren't into doing things together, you can just do it by yourself alone.

"By the way, we talked too much that we didn't noticed we're at your dorm."

Shin nodded. He didn't even noticed the time.

"Curfew is coming. If you want something, I'm just in the next door." Kit said. She turned around to leave but she forgot to ask something.

"What is your name again, hot-headed grumpy?"

Shin's face darkened. "Stop calling me grumpy!"

"Yeah, whatever."

"Since we don't like to know each other's name, we will just create detective codenames for us to call." Shin suggested.

"Detective codenames? How's that?" Kit asked innocently.

Shin insanely rolled his eyes. How many years did this girl studied here? She didn't even know what codenames is for.

"Codenames. It's like another secrecy name we used so that our informations will not be disclosed."

Kit slowly nodded in grimace. "Codenames sounds boring. Why would we hide our real name? Whatever, but I don't really like that."

Shin's upper lip pulled up. This girl's something! Tsk tsk. Is she really in the 99th rank? She seems blockheaded.

"You never understand that." Shin observed her appearance. Her hair, her face, and her height.

"What are you looking at?!"

"Observing." he turned around to see her back. So her golden hair is real. He thought it was just a hair color.

"Your codename could be 'minion'." Shin said while holding his chin.

"Huh?! Why the hell is that?!"

"Because your height is too small, and your hair's color is yellow. You could fit to be one of Felonious' minions."

Kit started to feel her blood rising up from her head. "Are you mocking me?!!"

Shin deeply sighed. "No. It's the fact."

"However, if you don't like that. We can exchange your codename from 'minion' to 'ugly duckling'. Ducks are small too, and some of them are yellow. Besides, you lack of exquisite so 'ugly duckling' might suits you well."

Kit firmly closed her eyes while clenching her fists. This guy is definitely making fun of her!

"You don't have to cry. It's the fact, we must accept it." — Shin.

Kit couldn't control herself anymore. She prepared her fist to launch a big attack on him but the lights suddenly turned off and the Professor who tasked to be the one to check students at curfew hour appeared holding a torchlight.

"I'll leave you to tomorrow's me! Damn it." Kit Lei said before going to her dorm. Shin also do the same.

'Oh right. We forgot our League name.' - Shin uttered in his mind.

What would be the best League name for them?

'Twice League? Sounds bad.'

'Unknown League? Since we didn't know each other's name.. but I'm sure that, that golden-haired girl will definitely don't like it.'

'Girlboy League? Sounds too grotesque.'

*sighs*

'What if we'll use detective names instead?'

S'herlock League? Ew. That's way too confident though we're not as smart as him.'

'Detective Conan League? Huh. You'll just make the world knows how addict you are in that anime.'

Shin turned around to the right side of his bed while forming a smile on his lips.

He finally closed his eyes.

'League of Hawkshaw.' will definitely fits their league name.
