A Strange Civilisation

My heart pounded as I let out an involuntary shriek and I quickly slapped my hands over my mouth to stifle the scream. I stumbled back and tripped over my foot to crash to the floor. The curtain had slipped back into place, but I hadn't been mistaken. I wasn't seeing things either.

I had come face to face with a monstrous eye that had locked in on me right outside the window.

I was in no hurry to check again.

It had been there. I wasn't wrong.

I tried to piece together the events that led to this moment—the meeting, the conversations… He had brought me to the Empire, hadn't he?

My hands trembled as my palms glued to the floor. This was the Empire? I was in a den teeming with vampires, but what was that outside?!
