Character Creation

The Amber Guardian guided Evan through the remaining steps. He made a point emphasizing that choices matter.

If a decision is made, players are unable to backtrack their choices in the character creation process to adjust their previous choices.

Each player could only make one character, and that character would be locked indefinitely.

Even buying or upgrading to a new Vizor wouldn't change the result as the system could recognize each individual through a player's 'soul' as the Guardian referred to it.

Evan tapped on the Amber screen in front of him and started his character creation process.

<1. Choose an ancestry>

Evan tapped on each of the seven ancestries trying to narrow down his choices. After reading some useful guidelines for each ancestry, he'd limited himself down to three choices.

It stood between Human, Sylvan, and Undead.

The other ancestries didn't quite suit his tastes. As an example, the greenskin ancestry possessed immense physical might, but the thought of being weaker in magical might or wielding brutish weapons wasn't Evan's style.

His thought pattern also lead him away from ancestries such as the dwarves. The stout dwarven craftsmen seemed to unlock certain professions such as blacksmith or enhancer, but seemed rather sluggish and often wielded heavy armor in combat.

After a couple of minutes of careful deliberation, Evan ended up picking the human ancestry.

A new window rose.

<2. Choose a human class>

"Ah, my favorite part. I'm glad I chose the human ancestry." Evan weighed. "I'm not too familiar with the general lore when it comes to draconians or halflings and stuff."

Evan exuded pure nostalgia. He remembered spending hours at a time with his family playing tabletop RPGs introduced by his parents at a very young age.

Those moments evoked many lingering feelings that he held dear.

Ever since the time his father had gotten into an accident and his sister had fallen ill, it had affected the whole family's priorities, giving them less time for tabletop game nights.

The younger siblings had to study a lot and help their mother with chores, while their father spent most of his time daily at the local hospital for rehab purposes or desperately applying for any home office job.

Sadly, Evan's father was your typical layman with no academic background. The reality was that no employer, out of the goodness of their hearts, would allow a cripple to wheelchair around work doing only half the work of 'a fully functional' employee.

Money was the family's main shortcoming. Expenditure that didn't go toward buying food or paying the bills went to Lauren's medicines and his father's therapy.

Evan couldn't spend every second dwelling on what to choose like he did when he was still on his father's lap playing tabletop RPGs.

His purpose was to see whether he had the potential to earn money by playing the game but also to pursue some semblance of thrill and escape reality.

"I'm not a kid anymore. I'll go with my gut on this one."

Quickly reading through each class description, Evan decided to pick the Warrior class.

Warriors provide high burst damage and are able to protect weaker allies while bolstering themselves with self-targeting buffs or by mitigating damage through their class skills.

"Huh? Soul Demolitionist? Mister Guardian, why does it say 'new'?" Evan asked, even before checking out the descriptions.

The Amber Guardian leaned back and his golden chair and began to explain.

"Ah, it seems Mother Aerth deems you worthy of picking a hidden class straight off the bat."

He paused for a moment, placing his index and middle fingers on his temple, almost like he was receiving transmitted information from somewhere, often seen in superhero movies.

"You're not the only player to receive a hidden class. Unfortunately, I can only tell you this much." The Guardian finalized.

After skimming through all of the sub-classes, Evan found it to be a no-brainer to opt for the Soul Demolitionist class. The name had a nice ring to it and the description felt promising.

A Soul Demolitionist can play several roles on the battlefield, able to strike fear into enemies' hearts via an arsenal of heavy explosives such as mines and grenades in addition to their exclusive use of ricochet-type weapons.

Unique to Soul classes, Soul Demolitionists possess the ability to harness energy by landing successful attacks and by damaging and killings their foes, filling a Soul-Meter that can unleash devastating charged attacks acquired through leveling up.
