On My Back

Kylie also had a nervous look on her face as the two people arrived and crossed the finish line. Both Jonathan and Kylie then took a peek down the street trying to get some sort of glimpse or small showing of Derek but there was nothing.

Jonathan then decided to take things into his own hands and approached the two people that just arrived and were panting as if the oxygen was leaving the earth, "Did you guys happen to see a redhead kid somewhere back there?" Jonathan asked them while they continued to catch their breath.

Neither person answered him immediately but once one of them caught their breath they spoke, "Yeah we passed a redhead kid and some other guy. They both looked like they were going to pass out but we were too so we just kept going. After we passed them we haven't seen them since." The person said before beginning to regulate their breathing once more.

Once Jonathan confirmed that Derek was truly still in the back of the race he started planning his course of action and that led him to step out of the finish line and back onto the main street. Many people were looking at Jonathan wondering what in the world he was doing but he knew what he had to do and he had every intention of making sure that his friends were safe.

"Don't think that you get all the fun." Kylie said suddenly appearing beside him while also stepping past the line.

Jonathan looked toward her in confusion, "What are you doing?" He asked while she began smirking.

"You're going out there to help them. Don't act like it wasn't obvious once you stepped past that line." Kylie said with her smirk still present making Jonathan have his jaw slightly drop.

'She knew what I was doing?!' He thought to himself in shock. Jonathan had no idea that his actions were so easily seen through and he also didn't know whether that was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Well if you know what I'm doing then let's get to it." Jonathan said before beginning to run back down the path. Angela had seen everything happening and was about to stop Jonathan but she stopped herself before she did, knowing that he was going to go out there either way.

Kylie was surprised by the sudden running by Jonathan and rushed to keep up. She thought that he was going to question her or even try and make her stay behind but little did she know that Jonathan had similar thoughts on Kylie that Angela had on him. Jonathan thought that no matter what he does he will not be able to change her mind so why waste time arguing.

Behind them, many people were whispering to each other wondering how crazy they had to be to run back into that place. Lots of the people thought that this game was much harder than the first but most of those that were saying that were the ones that got the most help throughout it all.

Jonathan and Kylie made quick work of running down the path since they had time to rest at the finish line. After running for a few minutes they could already hear the sound of the bulls stomping down the street which meant that if Derek and the other person were alive they were close.

"Get ready." Jonathan said over to Kylie who was just behind him running as well. She nodded her head in understanding of what the sounds meant and prepared herself mentally for whatever was about to happen.

As the sound grew louder Jonathan and Kylie were able to finally get their first look at Derek since they figured out how far behind he was. However, he wasn't alone, there was someone else with him that was right beside him running just as hard as Derek. It was another man in his early 40s that seemed to be close to passing out. Both Derek and the other man looked like they should have fallen or run out of energy a long time ago.

"Derek!" Jonathan shouted from a distance catching the attention of both men. When Derek and the man looked toward Jonathan and Kylie they had a relieved expression on their face but that second of relief caused a lapse in judgment making them both slightly trip.

Both of the guys wobbled falling toward the ground but luckily before they hit the ground each one of them was wrapped up in a pair of arms. Jonathan had a hold on the other guy while Kylie had grabbed Derek and began running.

While running Jonathan and Kylie placed both men on their backs making it easier to run without them falling. Jonathan was surprised to realize that the 40-year-old man weighed less than what Angela did when he was running with her to the garage door. When he realized this it made it a lot easier to transport the man.

Jonathan then glanced toward Kylie to see how she was doing but it didn't look as bright. She had Derek on her back and was making good progress but she seemed to be getting tired quickly. They had run for about 5 minutes to reach this point and the bulls behind them weren't going to let them rest for the next 5 minutes for them to get to the finish line so Jonathan decided something.

"Once we get within sight of the finish line you can hand him to me if you can't take it." Jonathan said to her making her tired face wake up quickly and look toward him as if he were crazy.

"There's no way you can carry both of them at the same time." Kylie said back while readjusting Derek on her back who was gasping for air.

"I may not be able to carry him on my back but I can definitely get him there." Jonathan said reassuring her with a smile. Kylie also looked back but decided not to respond anymore and began thinking about what she should do when the time does arrive.
