Shadowborn

"What was that thing?" Ken eyed Pel suspiciously.

"I don't wanna go in circles again so please get straight to point...how much do you know?" Pel went to the point since explaining Taxao's info would take time.

They both sat down and Ken began narrating.

"About three months ago, after they announced on TV about Earth's current status on weather news, I thought it might be just a joke, people gaining abilities seemed too farfetched still I looked forward to it though"

"As the evolution came, the air seemed cooler and dense, in fact so dense that you could see it...but that wasn't air"

Ken dived into his memories. "Things remained as stagnant at the time until the dark clouds appeared. People started going crazy and we lost half our population that night"

"My dad and I were coming back from a stroll...it was Saturday, my birthday...No one knows how it happened but I saw it"

"You saw what?" Pel asked with a serious expression.

Ken though remained tight-lipped refusing to let out a peep. It was hard not to remember what happened that day but it was hard to say.

Pel stood up. "You have to let me let me know, I might be able to help"

Ken then exhaled and continued. "Although it was a short second, I knew what I saw...his shadow distorted and a foreign one invaded it. For some reason, I could differentiate between the two as if it was night and day but I couldn't explain it to my dad, he wouldn't have believed it anyway"

"That was my biggest mistake...and by the time I got home when I checked, my dad's shadow was being consumed only leaving a small amount. From the shadow, something gazed into my eyes and whispered in my mind 'Shadowborn'

"Shadowborn, what is that?" Pel asked with a confused expression, up until now, the story had been nothing short of weird and it was getting even weirder.

"I don't know either and I'm not desperate to find out"

"Then what happened to your father?"

Ken's eyes looked distant. "He went from number 1 to number 5 in an instant...his eyes turned completely dark with no distinction between the iris and pupil. Dark veins covered his skin and he looked exceedingly pale then his fingers started growing into claws but my dad was still in there and using the last bit of himself he reached for a kitchen knife and stabbed himself to death"

"As he died, the darkness left his eyes and he stared at me as if trying to apologize but I didn't understand why he was apologizing. After he died I heard a plop and that was when I noticed my mom and Lisa standing there"

"Guilt dug into my core but then I saw a shadow heading for my mom's. I screamed in despair and used all my energy to run to them, I wasn't going to lose another family member and...I do not know what happened, before reaching there I blacked out but when I woke up they were both fine but my dad was still gone"

Pel did not say anything and watched him wipe his tears. Another person's situation should not be underestimated, they might be suffering more than you are.

Then after a bit of silence, Pel opened his mouth."Do you know where the shadow comes from or perhaps what it is?"

"It should be from the rift as for what they are, I have no idea" Ken shook his head.

"Your sister said your mom was sick..." Pel said. "...may I see her?"

"Are you..."

"An Awakener yes" Pel interrupted.

"You can heal?" Ken asked as hope ignited in his eyes.

"Err...Not right now but I still have one copy spot left I could go and copy Flora's ability or Ito can you help?"

[I am not a doctor]

Ken did not even care that he was talking to himself. "Then you can come see her after you are sure you can heal her"

After being indirectly told you get out, Pel called for Taxao.

"Will you be coming back?" Lisa asked with a sad expression.

Pel turned to Taxao who was also waiting for his answer and inwardly smiled before turning to Lisa. "Sure"

First, he wanted to inform Crista about going away for a while so he went back to where he had left her.

"You called" Tulip leisurely walked and sat in front of her father.

"Where is the other troublemaker?" Bruce asked with a raised eyebrow.

"He running errands"

Bruce scrutinized Tulip with his gaze. "What are you up to"

Tulip smirked. "Guess..."

Bruce rolled his eyes and proceeded to drink some tea.

"Who sees you right now would think your a gentleman" seeing her dad's glare she laughed.

"Mana surge has risen in some areas, you will probably be called up soon"

Tulip's expression became serious. "Rifts..."

"Possibly...and the something the Telons are working more efficiently" his words oozed sarcasm. "Apparently someone wrecked their main house"

"Oh" Tulip was thoroughly disinterested.

"The culprit did it to save his friends and his identify is really interesting because wasn't even trying to be discreet"

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Tulip said her brow.

"Are you going to keep playing dumb...you are harboring a mass of disaster and you're behaving as if you have no idea about it?"

"Wait, this was done by Pel?" Tulio was really surprised since she had no idea about it.

Bruce observed her expression and knew she wasn't lying. Though she would always create trouble, she wasn't afraid to admit them so if she was behaving this way, she really did not know.
