The heavy rain had been falling for quite some time, and by the time Hannah got out of bed, everything outside the window was shrouded in white fog, obscuring everything but the downpour.
The room was very quiet, and the space beside her was now empty.
Arnold Simmons had left a note.
He said that he had work suddenly and would be back later.
It wasn't long before the maid came to knock on the door, asking Hannah if she would like breakfast prepared now.
Hannah sat up in bed, her eyes barely open, her mind still foggy. She preferred to wrap herself in the blankets rather than getting up, "When did Arnold go out?"
It was only when she spoke that she realized her voice was hoarse.
She couldn't help but cough lightly, silently cursing Arnold as a beast in her heart.
The maid knew what Hannah was worried about and replied, "Sir had just left at six o'clock, before the rain had even started."
