Hannah watched for a while before she roughly understood. "It's okay, I'll get it myself."

Aunt Lee shook her head and turned to enter the kitchen.

The kitchen cabinets were all full, stocked with various everyday necessities.

These had all been prepared in advance by Jimmy Simmons, only the fresh vegetables beside the sink were brought over by Aunt Lee.

Aunt Lee opened a cabinet, twisted open the sugar jar, grabbed a handful of candies, and while stuffing them into Hannah's hand, she gestured and explained.

The vegetables were from her own home.

The salary Jimmy Simmons gave was too much—though she was in desperate need of money, accepting it made her uneasy, and she could only bring over the little bit of vegetables she grew at home.

It was a kind of repayment, or perhaps gratitude.
