Fiery Attonement

Outside of the castle, near the northern gate, was a large crater, and within the crater was a female oni hovering over a shattered ice golem that Aurora had summoned.

This oni had waist-length, deep red and blue hair and donned a luxurious red kimono with deep red embroidery that covered her reddish skin. Her eyes were the same as her hair—a mixture of blue and red.

If Aurora saw her, she would immediately recognize her as Rin, the one who had severed her arm in their earlier fight. The only difference was that her appearance changed, along with her aura and nature.

An uncontrollable rage burst forth in her eyes. "Where are you? Show yourself! So I can avenge those who've fallen!"

Surprisingly, she had kept her rationality even though she was halfway to becoming a Wrath Demon. A demon whose mind is corrupted by absolute rage—this causes them to rampage, killing anything they can set their eyes on.

"I'm here! Can you please quiet down? For a half-wrath demon, you're too feisty, Rin!"

"You have no right to say my name!" Rin dashed towards Aurora. "I'll kill you."

"You've made your choice, it seems!" Aurora grieved. Her figure flickered in the next second. She appeared before Rin, covering the distance in a blink of an eye. "You leave me with no choice but to end your suffering quickly."

A kick came flying, landing on Rin's chest. The kick was strong enough to obliterate an ordinary human, but Aurora didn't use her full strength in that kick. She hadn't fully recovered from earlier, when her energy was drained.

Boom~

Rin's body shot back, crashing into the side of the large crater in the back. Another crater formed beneath her. She spat out a mouthful of blood, feeling a sharp pain in her chest. Several of her ribs had broken from the impact. However…

Thrust~

Before Rin could pull herself from the crater, Aurora stabbed her with her long ice sword, impaling her heart.

"N… no!" Rin struggled to speak. "I can't die... here…"

"I'm sorry for having to massacre your entire city! It wasn't by choice…" Aurora sympathized with Rin—her last few words were spoken only in a whisper.

Leaving Rin to die, Aurora left the city. She had accomplished what she needed to do, which was to level up. Even though she still felt guilt, she couldn't stop.

As she had reached the level she desired, her next course of action was simple, but it would leave a large burden and a larger form of guilt on Aurora—massacring humans.

It was early morning as the sun shone brightly upon the land, providing warmth from the cold, chilly nights.

There was no sound, no birds chirping, not even the sound of wind. Just nothing, absolute silence, where Aurora stood within a massive crater covered by ice. Scattered across the crater were millions of human corpses frozen in ice, some even scattering out of the crater.

'Am… I finally done with this…" A saddened voice came out.

Beneath Aurora, cracks started to emerge in the crater, and the frozen corpses had begun to sink into the ground. Aurora looked around and saw that the entire crater was experiencing the same thing.

Aurora didn't move from her position as tears still fell from her cheeks. Suddenly, many of the frozen corpses fell into the abyss, leaving a large black hole. From the black hole, Aurora could feel the unbelievably intense heat coming and the strong smell of sulfur that burned the insides of her nose.

'It burns…"

With that, the area around her feet continued to break, and soon her foothold collapsed, giving her a sense of weightlessness.

What greets her vision is a long, dark tunnel. At the end of this tunnel, she could see an endless plain of fire: burning millions of chained souls, monstrosities, and screaming filled her eyes and ears.

When she exited the tunnel, chains latched onto her, chaining her to the burning land of hell.
