Diary Entry 16

Going to try out my new voice-to-ink pen as my party and I clear out a graveyard that is currently a dungeon. 'A graveyard usually becomes a dungeon when a person is buried and properly or risen by a necromancer. in the case of being and properly buried pending on how many are and properly Berry only a few Undead may rise from the graves and the type of Undead will vary. If a necromancer is raising the Dead then the type of Undead will be determined by The necromancer.'

Damnit! I'm going to have to practice with this pen before I try using it again. Anyway, as I was saying (or trying to), a graveyard dungeon will have a variety of undead if the cause was an improper burial while a graveyard dungeon caused by a necromancer will have more undead but usually only one type of undead. Guess which one I am in.

Looks like this necromancer was a noob. Not only did he raise the dead as ghouls, but forgot to add what I am assuming was the 'I am your master so don't eat me' part of the spell. You see, ghouls are close relative of the zombie, the key difference being that they eat human flesh, whether it is a corpse that wasn't raised or a living person. So without a necromancer, these undead are out of control and need to be eliminated. Oh well, it makes our job easier as we just have to dangle our paladin, Isa Boss, on a piece of rope from a tree to draw the ghouls in (her idea by the way) while the rest of us blast them from the tree. We finished the job just as the sun came up.

Living on a continent full of monsters, naturally you are bound to find people who work with them. Those people are from the Monster Tamers Guild. The Monster Tamers Guild is one of most disorganized guilds you can find in Talamh Aisling and that is saying something. They have two missions set by their founder, Vivala Fauna. The first is to prevent any species of monster from going extinct. The other mission is to protect any sapient monster from being killed without due cause. However, there is no set way of meeting these objectives and as such the guild is divided into several factions that have their own methods.

The largest three factions of the guild are the 'Monster Ranch' faction, the T.A.C.M., and the 'Monster Research Society. The 'Monster Ranch' faction or 'ranchers', as they like to be called, prefers to keep monster populations stable using their breeding programs and their efforts were instrumental in saving the Element Hamsters and Celestial Honeybees from extinction. The TACM (Tamers Against Cruelty to Monsters) prefer regulating the hunting of monsters and may go to extremes against poachers. The leading faction, at least the one that keeps a rein on the other two, is the Monster Research Society, which researches optimal numbers of each species of monster in any given location.

Diary Entry 18

We are on an emergency quest to save a child that has been abducted by a White Wyvern. The White Wyvern is a mute member of the dragon family and is native to the Frost Mountains range located in the southern part of the continent which are still under exploration. Looks like our group got lucky and the wyvern's nest is on the edges of the mountain range.

I suppose I have to talk about the people in my group again. Well too bad! There are about ten people here, including myself, and I only recognize two of them, Boreas the Overheated and Tabitha, a witch who is very talented in curses, potions, and charms...and she's my cousin. As time is of the essence, names can wait until after we save the kid, of course, being in avalanche territory really minimizes the amount of conversation between us.

We finally made it to the cave where our quarry was but the White Wyvern wasn't there, just the missing child who looked like they were going to freeze to death soon. We barely approached the cave when suddenly a giant wing pushed three of the people whose names I don't know off the cliff. The cheeky wyvern had snuck up behind us! Sprinting into action, Boreas ran into the cave and managed to secure the child, Tabitha started cursing the wyvern while throwing bottles and flasks at it, while the nobodies started firing arrows and covering Tabitha. As for myself, I was throwing fireballs, but they weren't doing much. Things seemed to be fine until I noticed the wyvern started to gain altitude. Boreas yelled for everyone to get inside the cave. Tabitha, a swordsman, and myself made it when the blasted wyvern dive-bombed the entrance, knocking everyone to the ground. I tumbled down into a pile of skeletal remains.

When the tweeting wyverns stopped flying around my head, I looked around. There was nothing but bones, armor, weapons, coins, more bones, torn clothing, half-eaten cow... wait a minute! Underneath the cow carcass was a cloak. I pulled it out and looked at it. It was a Sir Scorch Limited Edition Firewall Cloak, which increases the heat and intensity of fire spells. Hearing screaming from the direction I tumbled, I raced back to the entrance of the cave. As I arrived, I noticed a headless corpse, my cousin holding her shoulder, and Boreas blocking the covering the entrance in a wall of ice, although the wyvern's head seemed to be stuck in it, with the kid hiding behind him. Seeing me with the cloak in my hand, Tabitha yelled, " Seriously Cuz!? You stopped to go treasure hunting?"

"Shut up!"

We huddled together to come up with an escape plan. First, Tabitha would throw a Fire Weakness potion or two at the wyvern's head. Next I would use my strongest tephra spell (note to self: replenish supply of cooled molten rock) when Boreas released his spell. While the beast was reeling, we would escape. However, when we put the plan into action, things didn't quite go as expected, but in a good way. Thanks to my new cloak, when I remelted my igneous rock to tephra, it glowing white-hot and went through the wyvern's head. Oh well, it just gave us more time to collect all the loot. Borrowing my cousin's Dimensional Carpet Bag, we managed to grab everything of value, including the wyvern's corpse (although my cousin made me get her a new one, said she couldn't get the smell out).

I think I am in trouble. I finally went on my date with Zilla (it is a date right?). We met at The Black Ivory Tower Coffee Shop in Teach City while our parties were looking for quests. However, as we sat and chatted, I started to feel funny everytime she called me by the fake name I gave her, 'An Daghda'.

Just as I was about to tell her that 'An Daghda' is not my real name, a huge hand grabbed my shoulder and dragged me away. I looked back at my captor, it was my party member, Hogan, who said in a cheery voice as he dragged me, "Come on, pal, we found a quest to guard a shipment of Durian Herring!" I quickly turned around only to find Zilla leaving with her teammates.

"Let's do this again!" I quickly yelled.

"Sure," she said and left.

I really need to have a discussion with my edito- I mean friend, as now I am "asked" to write a primer on jobs/classes. I finally agreed when I found out our continent does things differently. The jobs, or classes as some prefer to call them, are the same ones you can find in the rest of the world. How Talamh Aisling differs is the process of acquiring the job.

You see, to be considered say for example, a Paladin, you have to go through secondary education at an accredited Paladin Academy and acquired a Paladin license. To get the Paladin license, a student has to pass multiple courses such as Armor Maintenance 101, Advanced Shield Tactics, and Civics. Once the student passes the mastery exam they are presented with their license which allows them to go on quests, join guilds, and such.

Each country has accredited academies for the basic jobs Wizards/Mages, Knights/Paladins, Fighters/Monks, Barbarians, Priests/Clerics, Rogue, Archer, Monster Tamers, and Bards. Also in each country are academies for special jobs that are patented by the country, in other words, you have to go to Feng Long to become a cultivator, Tirna to become a Bagpiper, or Sakura to become a ninja or samurai, just to name a few. The kingdom of Sakura has the largest assortment of schools that offer advanced jobs like Pyromancer, Oracle, Sword Dancer and such but the other kingdoms have them too just not as many.
