"So, what happened?" Ian asked Mark, who emptied the entire cup of water that was presented to him.
In Ian's hotel room, Mark and Ian sat in front of each other. Ji-Hyun thought that it would be best that the two Americans would talk to each other in peace and he left the room.
Totally not because Ian had asked for private time with Mark!
Nevertheless, Mark sighed and got comfortable in his seat.
"Well, after I was done with shooting, as you know, Mr Hammock in Zen Studio talked to me about the lead of his next movie. Uh- It was some action-based movie and with a little hint of thriller."
Eminem Hammock was a top-tier director who had been in the industry for more than twelve years. He started off with his father's company, which was already successful but had made movies that were way more successful than the previous movies.
After three years in the industry, Mr Hammock made himself a name which brought him a lot of attention. Especially during the time when he won an award for hitting one million box office numbers in a short time.
Which was why Ian didn't see the problem of a role being offered by Eminem Hammock.
"So, I don't see anything wrong with that, what seems to be the problem?" Ian asked, wanting to understand where Mark was coming from.
Mark looked at Ian, paused and sighed. He had a lot going on in his mind and it showed through his face.
"Well, everything was great. And Mr Renner—I mean, Ian, you know me. I'm not the type to not take a good opportunity. And my reputation in the industry helps me to attract very good deals."
Ian nodded. He remembered how Mark Hamill rejected his offer for Home Alone but then came around when Ian had a better position in the industry.
"Well, my lawyer took a look at the contract and everything went fine. But then when we were getting closer to wrapping the shooting up, the producer called it off."
"Why?" Ian questioned.
"Because they got the actor they needed."
"They called it off just to begin from the beginning?" Ian asked back.
Mark nodded and looked at Ian, who looked back at Mark with sympathetic eyes. He didn't understand what it meant.
"Yeah. It all happened quickly."
Ian couldn't understand what Hammock's idea or goal was—but however, it had affected Mark Hamill.
"Mark, how are you feeling about that?" Ian asked after a pause.
He didn't know how to help him or how to bring him back to Hollywood. And he knew that what he was doing currently was just a temporary solution. He was running away from something Mark had thought was an-
"I was embarrassed, Ian," Mark admitted.
-
Ian listened further to what Mark was talking about.
Ten minutes later, Ian started explaining the ways of Hollywood. Although Mark Hamill was experienced, Ian knew that there were such things that flopped careers.
"...You know you can't hide here forever, don't you?" Ian asked finally.
He had tried to explain how there would be much better opportunities coming his way in no time but Mark was still hesitant knowing that he needed some time to regain himself–and to finish his already existing projects.
"Yes, I do. I'm not running away forever. And the project I got was something I was really interested in. Until my character dies, I don't think I can do anything," He said and looked at Ian.
"How many more episodes?" Ian asked.
"At least three hundred more."
"Three hundred? Are you really telling me that you wanted to not act until three hundred episodes are done?"
Mark shrugged.
"Are you sure about your decision?" Ian's question rang in Mark's head.
Mark nodded, being sure of it.
"I thought for more than three months while in Cali before thinking about coming here. And Ian, you're right, I'm confident that there would be better opportunities for me in the future, but I want to finish my project here and then think about the rest."
"Your manager was okay-"
"Yes. He had no choice."
Ian nodded.
This was a situation where Ian's mind or creativity couldn't play anything more. He needed Hamill to play Star Wars, and he was determined to get what he needed.
"Alright, you can leave now," Ian said, acting as if he gave up the idea of giving him any role.
Mark hesitantly opened his mouth and closed it. He clutched his fingers to a fist.
"Alright, it's good seeing you here, and somewhere outside the country."
"Yes, thank you, Mark," Ian said and stood up.
Mark looked at Ian and looked back at his fingers.
"Ian, can you—uh- what made you come all the way here?"
Ian hid the smile that was forming on his lips. The exact question he wanted Mark to ask ever since he started to talk about the previous project.
He wanted Mark to hear his idea out—-and the role that he'd be playing. If he heard that he'd play the lead in the Skywalker Saga, he was pretty sure Mark wouldn't hesitate before agreeing.
"Oh, it was just to pitch out an idea I had. Something I'm about to work on next."
"Pitch out to me?" Mark questioned.
"Yes, the role was kinda big… And I have expectations of my own, you know. So I couldn't imagine anyone else."
Mark sighed listening to Ian. The latter smiled seeing how Mark's wheels were already turning. He was already rethinking his decision.
"I'll go when I hear about your idea," Mark said, finally giving in.
Ian's idea worked perfectly.
Even without trying and consoling Mark, he was able to successfully turn himself in. And the rest was only a matter of time.
Because he knew that after Mark heard the story, there would be no going back.
"If you say so," Ian once again sat back with a smile of success. "So, it's about Luke Skywalker…"
