Working for Freedom

They teleported in a very precarious situation. There was a fight, the kind of fierce one with swords and shields. And due to the primary teleporter, Ajay landed right between them. The two sides just stopped and looked at the weird person who had arrived suddenly. The mermen were actually sent in Tarsh's space. Dhvani didn't understand why they were called mermen. They could very well be orcs but they had some similarities with spirit animals.

Maybe because they had some animal features when they transformed and couldn't live if they left the water for long, they were still considered mermen. Dhvani felt that she had to buy some props like a large pond so she thought it economical if they all lived with the spirit animals in Tarsh's world. They hadn't found an excellent way to let the spirit animals out yet. But the spirit animals seemed to love Tarsh's space more. Anyway, she had planned to make a large animal park for them later.

She dreamed of a large site, it would be better if she got a city. Her retirement options could provide that. And then she could rehabilitate the animals there. Her brother could become the manager and help her share the work. She didn't think that he wouldn't agree. He would accept if she gave him a good enough bribe.

The two teams which were about to start fighting looked at the intruder with murderous eyes. Ajay who didn't know that his system was zoning out rather than concentrating on his impending doom, felt bad.

He hoped that they could understand his language.

"I'm sorry for trespassing. You can continue. I'll go," he slowly backed away. But where would the two teams allow him to leave?

It was more of a confrontation because there were ten people on both sides. The leaders were two guys who looked very angry and they stood on his left and right sides. Ajay slowly started walking back and hoped they were still in a surprised state.

The two leaders recovered quickly.

Both of them yelled at the same time.

"Stop right there."

Ajay stopped at once. He didn't want to be shot by an arrow. Because he saw two shooters at the back lurking.

"How did you pop up here?"

The one at Ajay's right asked him.

He was slightly taller than the other leader but he had a more ruthless aura to him.

"This was a mistake. If you allow me, I'll leave nf you can go back to fighting or whatever you wanted to do."

Ajay didn't want to get entangled in this kind of fight. He was new to the world and most importantly, an alien. He didn't want to know the worst side of being an alien in this world. What if he was captured and kept in jail?

The guy on the right seemed to understand what Ajay feared so he tried to make his face less fierce. That succeeded in making him more fierce. Ajay looked at the guy on the left who was smirking like a fool.

"It seems Lord Dhir is not omnipotent like in rumors. You can consider coming to my side, dear guest."

Hearing the guy on the left saying this, the guy on the right who was Lord Dhir, scowled fiercely.

"Lord Vir is exactly as he is rumored. A joker without any sense of humor."

Before Ajay could react Lord Vir jumped on Lord Dhir and the gang fight began. Ajay took this as a ticket to freedom and he ran.

"Our archers have their arrows aimed at you, guest. I suggest you stop there and wait for us to finish."

Ajay swore quietly and froze there.

Dhvani scanned and found a group of archers hiding in the surrounding trees. The two groups were very inconspicuous but their clothes set off their identities. There were archers with alternating color clothes and maybe this was the reason for the standoff. Both sides had equal strength and they needed something to break this equality.

She also found that her system functions seemed to be losing their edge. Like they needed some time to charge. But how was this possible? She immediately clicked the self-help section.

There was a notification that she did not see because of teleportation. If the notification came a second earlier she would not start the teleport. But no. The two events had to happen at the same time and now she was stuck here. Curse her bad luck. No. Curse Ajay's luck. Her luck was very good. She managed to live even after death so it wasn't her fault anyway.

The group fought what seemed like a childish battle. There was nothing serious in it. No one got hurt but it was more like a show of strength. The winning side was very even with the losing side. So Ajay didn't feel like the losing side had any disadvantage. He had to wait for their judgment. He didn't communicate with the system. He thought that he had to perfectly observe his surroundings and only contact the system when it was absolutely necessary or when he reached a dead end.

"Will our esteemed guest come with us to talk?"

Dhir, the taller one, asked Ajay.

Ajay walked behind them. He carefully observed his surroundings. They were in a forest and the place the fight took place was a very small clearing. So the fight took place in close quarters.

After walking for what seemed like thirty minutes, they emerged out of the forest where there were tents. He did not imagine that he teleported into a military region. There were many tents and Ajay didn't count them. The soldiers wore red uniforms and were patrolling, and practicing and some were cleaning and cooking.

Ajay was led into the innermost tent. No one gave him a second look as if strangely dressed men were brought every day in this camp. The discipline was good.

The tent was clean with a scent of sandalwood and both Dhir and Vir settled at the only table present. Ajay sat facing them leisurely. He didn't show anything on his face. If they wanted to play psychologically, he was also ready.

"Who are you?"

Surprisingly Vir asked this. Ajay thought Dhir was the one who was the leader. But maybe he was wrong.

"I am a human."

"How did you come here?"

"By accident, I hope."

"Are you conspiring against us?"

"I would never."

"He isn't lying."

Vir told Dhir and then leaned back.

Dhir nodded and then clapped. The glass jar filled itself automatically and slid before Ajay. Similarly, two more glasses appeared before both of his interrogators.

"Not poisoned. You can drink."

Dhvani used her system to scan and found a substance in it. It was easy to analyze.

["Host. It has sleeping medicine. You will fall asleep after thirty minutes of its consumption for a day. Do you need me to resolve it?"]

"You can resolve half of it. Make me wake up in twelve hours. I have to act before them to clear some suspicions. You keep an eye on them in the meantime. Look for other ways to escape. If there is danger, just teleport me somewhere else, even if I'm still in this world."

"What is your name, your Excellency?" Dhir aksed.

Ajay was not too pleased with their act of drugging him so he lied.

"Ravi."

"What do you do?"

"I run errands for my lord."

"Who is your lord?"

"The Night Lord."

Slowly he began to feel drowsy and then he fell asleep on the table.

Dhvani still observed the scene.

"What he told me was all truth but yours were all lies."

Vir told Dhir.

"It is a good thing you are here then. Your skill finally came to use other than interrogating prisoners." Dhir answered.

"Don't think I don't dare to smack you, Dhir. If it wasn't for your sister to beg me, I would have sent you to hospital."

"Like you can beat me. A weak warrior like you can't beat me."

"I would have won the fight if you didn't distract me with your mirror."

Vir gnashed his teeth.

"I knew you would be jealous. People who don't have younger sisters are very miserable."

The more this conversation went on, the more Dhvani became confused.

She still recorded their conversation for Ajay to see later. She may lose some information that could be important. Ajay himself could judge if it was useful or waste later.

Dhir clapped his hands twice and a sergeant appeared.

"Take him to our guest house. Add first-level security outside. And don't leak a word of this outside."

The sergeant nodded and picked up Ajay like a sack of potatoes. Dhvani also recorded this but separately. Such scenes were excellent blackmalil material in her opinion.

Ajay like he was told woke up in twelve hours but due to his early solution of medicine, he had a massive headache.

["Host, this is the surveillabve recording after you were drugged."]

Dhvani, the ever-helpful system, performed her tasks very well.

"Do you have something that could solve my headache?"

Dhvani looked in the system mall and quickly order a batch of tablets from the medical system. She had absolute belief in her co-system.

Ajay felt that this tablet was better than those in the world. If he could sell these tablets, people would like them. But he couldn't. He could just use it temporarily. But if he could master the technology then everyone could use these. The system perks were like this. He couldn't directly buy and sell, because that would be considered cheating. He honestly did not understand many system rules.

The rules sometimes advocated self-work but sometimes they were like a cheating method.

He felt refreshed instantly and then he looked at the footage. The blue screen was only visible to him. It looked like a led screen floating before him and he carefully observed everything. Some details which he didn't observe carefully were also considered by him now.

The tent which was spotless had a partition. They sat in the outer part and there was a table with four chairs. The things on the table were very novel. Like the self-filling glasses. And he also saw a book that was actually a miniature sand sculpture of the battlefield. Maybe the Lord used it to simulate battlefields. Ajay liked that it was disguised as a book and also the fact that it could be folded.

Maybe all the objects were similar and different from what he knows. So he did not dare to neglect any small thing. What if the table was some kind of car disguised?

"As I expected from the guest, you woke up way earlier."

Ajay wasn't shocked to see Dhir entering the room. The room was simple. There was a bed, a dresser table, and a window opposite him. Because the drapes were closed, he did not the weather outside.

"My apologies for treating you in this manner. We had to do this to check if you had any dangerous weapons. I wouldn't like it if anyone treated me this way."

He had a way of appeasing hearts but Ajay wasn't impressed. Such understanding people play with your thoughts. If he acquiesces, maybe he would be ready to die for him so he had to be vigilant.

"Can you tell me your name?"

"Ajay."

"Lord Ajay, we find you non-threatening. But since you are here in the army, i can release you if you work for me for five years."

Dhvani was surprised at the turn of events.

"No way. I have to go back."

"Yes, you can. But you seem to be different from us and we can help you if you help us."

["Host, you can try it. We cannot go back for the time being."]

"Why?"

["The system is in annual repair mode. I'm very sorry for not seeing this. It's my fault. It is my first time being a system and I didn't know this. I'll make it up to you with rewards later."]

Dhvani felt very guilty but she had to own her mistake.

Ajay sighed. Well, he had no choice. He couldn't scold a computer program anyway.

"What am i going to do here then?"

Dhir seemed overjoyed like he had abducted a good fighter.

"We fight demons."
