CHAPTER 38

In one of the big mansions in the city, a man in his late forties sat behind his desk in his big study room, having three chairs, a big desk and a bookshelf.

To his left was a counter, housing his coffee machine, some clean set of plates, spoons and cups with a refrigerator at the side.

His eyes narrowed further on the screen while his fingers tapped away on his laptop.

The deep crease between his brows flexed every now and then to the movement of his eyes. He inhaled deeply, his chest rising and falling slowly as he hummed at the screen.

"Master, do you need me to call the young master for you?" a young man standing in front of him asked.

"No. You have been my P.A. for a while now, He Dong. You should know when I want to involve him or not."

"But he handles the family business properly. He can manage well," He Dong reminded.

"I know but this is on a different scale. I see the Kai family are biting off more than they can chew. And then the new business project, if we can land our hands on the bidding, we take over this city's largest reserved land and can build the estate and hotels."

"Yes, sir bit…"

"No need. I would let him know later. However, what has that boy been busy doing?"

"Master Liu, the young master's life remains the same," He Dong responded calmly with a slight bow.

"Hmm," he tapped on his laptop, saved the files he was looking at and then closed the laptop screen to look at his P.A. "No girl?" He lowered his gaze, pulling his glasses down a little.

"None, master Liu. "

"How about the lady he brought in as the creative director?"

He Dong's jaw dropped. No matter how hard he tried, his boss never ceased to amaze him. Especially when it came to information. He got them firsthand. It almost was as though nothing could be hidden from him.

"Shocked? You still think things get past me, huh? Anyways, things seem to be going well with him in the fashion industry. Keep an eye out."

'Why do you still ask me to keep an eye out when your eyes are everywhere?' He Dong thought to himself but did not dare show any sign and wore his usual calm smile.

"Got it, sir."

Meanwhile, the Kai residents had lived peacefully without any quirks and disturbance. And as such, they did not bother with the oldest daughter of the family.

Walking down the flight of stairs, a young girl in her early twenties had her headphone on and a phone in her hand as she scrolled on her screen searching for something.

She moved down, headed for the kitchen and swept her gaze around but she did not find anything.

"Hmm," her brows furrowed and she turned away again, this time heading for the living room. "Ah there you are," she self-announced as she walked in to meet her mother.

Lowering the magazine in her hands, Fang Mei lifted her eyes to see her eldest daughter as she happily bounced in to greet her.

"Fang Daiyu, I thought you had gone to work today."

"Sorry mu. I got busy pulling an all nightery in my room so I called in sick."

"I see. Now, what were you doing all night?"

"Watched a series and then made a call. Nothing much. Anyways, it is Friday anyway. I thought I might just add the extra hours for my weekend," she shrugged and proceeded to take her seat.

"You are good at being bad, Daiyu," Fang Mei complimented.

Her smile was smug but her eyes held a glint of humour in them. "You flatter me mum but what amuses me is the fact that Andromeda Kai missed her own wedding and the media is not carrying it."

A soft sigh fell off of Fang Mei's lips. She had tried to not think about that topic but she could not.

And now, her own daughter brought it up. She closed the magazine in her hands and dropped it on the chair beside her.

Turning to her right, she faced her daughter squarely and masked all her smiles. "You know she is your stepfather's daughter. Whatever she does would affect him and his image."

"Duh, she broke ties off with us long ago mama. Can't you see?"

"I know but she was angry at him for marrying me. He still blames himself silently." Fang Daiyu rolled her eyes at her mother.

"You need to understand that if she stays on the headline and it affects your father's business, it would affect our lives."

"Pff," she blew air out of her lips. "Why should we be the ones to suffer for her own poor decision? I love what father did. He disowned her."

"Daiyu, you cannot say that out loud in this house. Who knows who might be hearing," Fang Mei hushed her.

"Relax mother. Any conniving maid would answer to me. Besides, I think you should help him push for getting the documents ready. This way whatever happens to her would not define us."

"You are right but I cannot have him see me that way," Fang Mei reasoned. "It is this act of mine that has kept me by his side after all these years. You know how our life was before. It is necessary we play our cards right."

"I know that well enough. But why hide? We successfully made her leave. We should cut a clean break soon. The earlier the better. Who knows what that shameless girl would do. What would you say if she came for her inheritance?"

"Shh! Stop with that. It can never happen. I would bring about her ruin first. I just need the perfect opportunity," Fang Mei whispered.

"Good, we can create the opportunity but we won't be the ones doing anything. We just have to put her in a difficult situation and make her look like a tramp before father's eyes. That way he would push for it if you suggest it."

Fang Mei thought hard for some time before nodding her head. "You are right. I would make preparations. You do not worry."
