The weight of a promise

Mar and Ren reached Ivy's home.

Ivy can't help herself but hug Ren tightly and in tears. "I thought you were dead. You fell on the cliff and then you're gone. Don't do that to me again. You are the first person to make me cry, do you know that?"

Ren seeing that Ivy really worries about her, hug her back. "I'm sorry for being so clumsy. I know i made everyone worried."

Ivy's mom came to the door holding Ezra.

Mar take Ezra and kiss him. "Mom is back, son."

"Thank you for taking care of him while we were gone." He said while smiling at her.

"No need to thank me. I love watching over him while he is here. He is such a sweet boy. I wish Ivy can have a cub of her own for me to take care of."

"We will go back home now. Thank you again for everything." Ren told Ivy's mom.

"See you soon Ivy, okay? Come to our hut." She said to Ivy while holding her hand.

"Okay, see you." Ivy replied.

They've reached their hut. Mar put Ezra down on the floor so he could play, and Ren sat down on the wooden chair.

Mar also sat down on the chair beside Ren.

"So can you tell me now what happened? I promise not to get mad."

Ren looked at Mar and think for a moment before she speaks. " The truth is I just woke up in Noah's hut. He then told me that when I fell off the cliff, he saved me and brought me into their cave as he didn't know you and the others."

"Good thing that he saved you. And I'm so sorry for being an incompetent mate. I should have focused on you than talking with Agni."

"No, don't say that dear. It isn't your fault. It's my clumsiness. You shouldn't blame yourself for my mistake."

"But I am your mate and you are my responsibility. I will never take off my eyes off of you. I promise you this."

"I'm sorry too for being clumsy. I promise to take care next time."

Mar hugs Ren and kissed her on the cheek.

"Then can you tell me now about this promise that this bird is telling me?"

"Oh, about that, I promise him that if he needed anything from me in the future, he can find me here in our village."

"Did he made you to promise that? I swear, that bird is dead meat."

"Noooo. Don't say that. He didn't make me. I am the one who told him that. I owe him my life in the first place. So please, no fighting. Noah is a very nice man. I don't like you to hurt him."

Hearing those words from Ren makes his hands cold and his legs feel weak.

Sadness covers his face. "Why did you promise him that? And you also said he can ask for anything? Did you know what you just did Ren?"

Ren is confused on what she did wrong. All she knows is that she owes Noah and that is all the things she can do. "I'm sorry, I didn't know what I did."

Mar put both his hands on his face looking so disappointed. He really didn't know how or what to say to Ren. He then looked at Ren and speak calmly. "Promising something to someone is not as simple as you might think. A promise is as equal as what you might say. If I promise you that I will take care of you for all my life, you can definitely take my word for it. If I didn't do as I say, the moon god Luna will either punish me or how should I say this, make you sick or something. It is like a double edge knife. Either of us can get hurt if the promise is not fulfilled. Promises are like a sacred thing for us beast men."

Ren is so shocked she couldn't say anything, she just looked at Mar. She can't believe she is hearing this important thing now. Why does no one ever tell her anything about this?
