The Mnemosyne

We were both catching our breaths when Storm pulled away. I can feel his heavy breathing as our foreheads were still touching each other, the raindrops finding their way into our hairs. We were both soaked in the rain, his arms still trapping me as I leaned against the wall.

"E-everything I saw..." My voice trailed off. "did it really happen?"

"Yeah," He nodded lightly. "and it was all my fault."

I stared straight into his eyes. It was filled with agony. Pain.

The Storm I knew was always smiling cheerfully that never in my mind would I imagine he went through something so horrifying. His facade was slowly breaking and I could see his real emotions.

He's broken inside.

"It was all my fault, Xia. And how I wish the Mnemosyne wasn't you. I don't want to drag you into this mess but we have no other choice. I'm sorry." I could feel his body trembling.

He's always been a good friend to me. We've known each other for three years and even though he hid a lot of things from me, I knew our friendship was genuine. It was real.

"It wasn't your fault, Storm." I pulled him with a hug and tapped his back lightly. I felt his head resting on my shoulder as he hugged me back.

"It wasn't your fault." I whispered. "But I don't think I can help you. My granny needs me. I can't just disappear after knowing everything." I pulled away and stared right through him. "I'm sorry, Storm. I might be the Mnemosyne but I'm powerless."

But he shook his head. "You're not powerless, Xia. It's just locked away somewhere within you. And we could visit your granny from time to time and put a protection spell on her so one could-"

I screamed at the top of my lungs when something hit Storm, dragging his whole body away. I saw him groan painfully as his back hit the low wall enclosing the rooftop. My eyes widened when I saw how the impact made a hole in the wall.

"Spade?" Storm chuckled. He stood up as a grin flashed on the corner of his lips. His eyes started to change color. From gray to intense red. "What? Are you jealous because I'm her first kiss?"

My eyes shifted to where Storm was looking. My body went frozen when I saw it wasn't a thing that hit him, it was a person.

I remember him clearly. Pale skin, dark eyes, and jet black hair. He's the one who helped me escape out of the mansion last night.

Thunder roared as I felt a murderous intent coming from the stranger. His eyes were also deep red and I could see fangs from the corners of his mouth. The rain poured harder as if it felt the impending danger I got myself into.

"Y-you..." I mumbled, staring at the stranger with shock. I know he's a good person. Why is he doing this?!

He shot a glance at me and it felt like he was looking straight into my soul. I never knew I was holding my breath until he returned his sharp gaze to Storm. I drew a sharp breath when I felt a chill running down my spine.

I can feel his anger. His rage.

"We don't have to involve her!" His deep, raspy voice roared, making me flinch. "We don't have to involve someone again!

Everyone who knows too much about us ended up dying! Do you want her to be in danger?!" There was fire blazing within his eyes. His fists were clenched tightly, his uniform soaking in rain. He pulled his necktie roughly, making it slightly loose.

"Wait, what did you say?" I asked him, my eyes started to tremble in fear. "I could die if I help you?!" I shifted my eyes at Storm but he only averted his gaze, sighing as he brushed his white hair back.

"We could protect her, Spade! I will protect her!" Storm stated, ignoring my question.

"Well, I'm done here!" I put both of my hands up and glared at Storm. "I thought you treated me as a friend but I guess everything was a lie. I'm out of here." I started walking away. I don't want to be involved in them any longer. As much as I want to help, I don't want to put myself in danger. Who knows, granny might get involved, too. I don't want that to happen.

"Wait, Xia-"

"Stop it, Storm." I heard the stranger stopping him. I think Storm called him Spade.

"Vankov, quit messing around!" His voice roared like thunder.

I flinched when I heard Storm shouting in anger. It was the first time I heard him being so angry.

And Vankov?

Spade is that Vankov Faye is talking about?

"Ellixia, if you don't come with us, you'll die eventually! The Mnemosyne is tied to the descendants of Orpheus!"

Descendants of Orpheus.

I turned to Storm with confusion. Somehow, it rang a bell in my ears. But I'm sure I haven't heard those words before. I'm sure I haven't encountered that in any books I've read. I have a perfect memory so I can remember everything I do and see.

"We have a bond, Xia! And you can't escape your fate!"

"SHUT THE F**K UP!"

My scream echoed with the pouring rain when Spade moved so fast my eyes couldn't follow. He slammed Storm's body on the wall, bricks started to fall off as the wall started to break.

"Why do you keep getting in my way?!" Storm kicked him in the stomach, making him retreat a few meters away. Within seconds he was already behind Spade. He grabbed him in the collar and threw him hard to the ground. My eyes widened in shock when I saw how the ground completely broke, the two of them falling down the rooftop.

They just freaking fell from the rooftop! Don't tell me they're dead?!

I forced my legs to move and I immediately peek through the hole. They're still alive which made me sigh out of relief. The two of them are fighting on another floor. They were moving too fast all I could see were the after images of them.

"Stop them."

I flinched when I heard a man's voice. It was faint and weak.

"W-who are you?" I roamed my eyes around the rooftop but it was empty. All I could see was the pouring rain and nothing else.

"Stop them."

"Who are you?! Show yourself!" Just then, I realized it was coming from me. It was coming from my mind.

"Stop them."

"I said," My nostrils are starting to fume. Can't he understand what I'm saying when we're using the same language?!

"who are you?!"

"Stop them."

"Ugh, fine!" I grunted and dashed towards the door. I ran downstairs only to find a heap of rubbles everywhere. The building was totally in chaos.

"AAAH!" I screamed when Storm's body passed through me, slamming against the wall behind me. It started to break out again because of the strong impact.

Don't they die?! How in the world can they get up after that?!

Storm grunted in pain and the next thing I knew he ran again at full speed.

Don't they get ever tired from fighting?!

The rain was really pouring hard so I guess no one from the outside could hear the commotion in here. I carefully walked inside an old classroom where I found the two of them fighting.

"Can you please stop?! Someone's telling me I should stop you!" I called but they weren't listening. I guess they didn't even notice that I'm here.

Storm slammed Spade to the ground and the two of them fell down another floor again. I can't help but groan in annoyance as I started to dash down the stairs once more.

"Hello?! Earth to the two of you?! You need to stop before this building collapses!" I kept trying to get their attention but both were hellbent on defeating each other. Maybe they can't hear me because I was putting a distance between them and myself. I don't want to put myself in danger, you know.

But I flinched when I heard Storm wailing in pain.

I ran closer and saw Spade on top of him. He was blinded with anger. He kept throwing punches as Storm lay helplessly on the floor.

"I told you to stop f**king mess with her!" He punched him again, making me hear a crunching sound. My eyes twitched when I saw crystallines starting to come out from Storm. I saw how his pale skin started to break.

His body's shattering.

Storm kicked him in order to stand up but Spade is just uncontrollable. He kept throwing punches again.

"You kept involving her when I warned you to get away from her!" Spade punched him again and the crystallines in the air started to become many.

Suddenly, I felt something inside me tugging me to get closer, pushing me to do something. The longer I stood up and just watched, the harder it was for me to breathe. It felt like every punch Spade did was hurting me. It felt like it was against my virtue to see Storm getting beat up like that.

Something in me badly wants to stop him.

"I TOLD YOU TO JUST F**KING-!"

"STOP!" I roared, letting go of the weird feeling that was running in my veins. The next thing I knew, I found myself in between them.

My eyes widened when I felt something from me come out. It was invisible, but I saw the impact. It made the two of them fly several meters away. Spade's body slammed against the left wall while Storm slammed on the right. Their bodies made a loud thud as both of them fell on the cold floor, unconscious.

"What the..." I covered my mouth. My cold hands started to tremble.

D-did I just do that?!
