Story of my Life (Irina Rose P.O.V)

"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Why am I so stupid?" Rose cried, while fighting back her tears, as she ran.

Today was their five year anniversary and all she wanted to do was give him a suprise. They had not seen each other for the past six months and she decided to make a suprise visit. She wanted to suprise him never expecting to be the one receiving a suprise.

They had been together since their teens, when they were 15, and had declared that they'd grow old together. Their ship had been quite steady and grew well, so it was really shocking for her. They got along well and complemented themselves perfectly. Based on that, there should have had no issues but that was an issue itself?

He said he didn't want to be in a perfect relationship, it was depressing. He didn't want to be with someone who complemented him in every sense, a relationship that seemed sureal he didn't want.

He didn't want to be a power couple anymore, Mr and Mrs. Perfect.

It would have been manageable, no tears would have been threatening to fall if he'd broken up with her normally and told her the issues he had with their relationship. He just couldn't do that, he had to go down the abnormal route, he started a new relationship with another person.

Again, it would have been manageable if it was with a random person. He just had to cheat with her arch nemesis, Lisa.

To make already bad matters worse, when Rose caught them together, she had gone out for dinner, he broke up with her. He broke up with Rose on the spot while acting lovey dovey with Lisa.

It was a nightmare for Rose. Of all eight billion people in the world, he just had to pick Lisa.

It felt like her past had come to haunt her.

Ever since Rose could remember things, she hated Lisa. Since she was little, she had been compared to Lisa in multiple aspects ranging from academics to sports to family life.

Whenever she argued with her parents, Lisa was inevitably brought up.

"Why can't you be like Lisa"

"Look at Lisa, I bet her parents have zero reasons to shout at her"

"I'm sure, Lisa doesn't give her parents headaches"

"Just try to be good like Lisa for once"

"You know what would make us happy, if you could act like Lisa for just a moment"

Every single time Lisa was mentioned, the arrow in Rose's heart was wrenched further, and the distance between Rose and her parents increased.

On Rose's first day in kindergarten, her teacher asked for her favourite colour and she said 'silver' only to be met with snickers from the other children who claimed that Lisa hated the colour. Lisa had already won the hearts of the other children and as time went Lisa became their idol and the teachers' pet while Rose remained in her shadow.

Her entire childhood, Rose was upstaged by Lisa and was only second best or worst, and when she eventually came first all that could be heard was "she's so pitiful, I heard Lisa threw in the game because Rose has never won any"

Guys never asked Rose out until they had been rejected by Lisa, since in their opinion she was inferior to Lisa. One can imagine how elated Rose felt when a guy who had never asked out Lisa asked her out, she never realised he would eventually get together with Lisa.

Her parents comparison of her with Lisa drove her so hard to the wall that she got emanciapated and started living with her mentor and his wife.

Lisa struck once more, Rose was only left with her mentors. Her boyfriend turned ex boyfriend, Johan, was now out of the picture. Her mentors seemed to be the only ones to stand the test of time, no one seemed to care like them. They had been there for her since she was a teen and needed parental attention.

Her parents didn't really feel much when it came to her. They never gave hugs and kisses and seemed to be fed up with her. They never had time for her and when they did all they wanted to do was to complain.

An example is when Rose got her first A+, she showed her parents but their responses were far from what she expected.

"What's the big deal. Look at Lisa, her cards are always filled with those. You aren't the first to get one so quit clowning"

She had never been so hurt, but she hid it all and left with a smile on her face. Since that they she had lost hope for her parents, even more so after the emancipation.
