Chapter sixteen: First Choice (2)

Serena didn't want to be with someone whose heart belonged to someone else. For once she wanted to be someone's first choice.

She could never hate her mother for loving Sofia more than her even if she tried just like Ivy could never love her more than Sofia even if she tried.

The truth was hard to digest for Serena however it couldn't be changed. She walked sloppily, her eyes clouded with tears making it hard for her to see where she was going. Her mind raced to the day she died. Wondered if her parents ever missed her after she was gone.

Scared that they couldn't have even noticed that she was no more. No one moaned her. Her life was in vain and even in death, no one cried for her. Alone, that was how she felt.

Serena stumbled forward. "Aaahh," She gasped feeling nothing but the air in her hair. Her leg had hit something before she fell.

She had tried so hard to have the perfect birthday, alas, her second chance had gone to waste too. Serena squeezed her eyes shut ready to embrace her fate. Her body kept falling at an increasing rate.

At that moment, she looked up, to see the stars one more time. Her eyes moved along the sky to the balcony that she fell from. 'At least this time I don't get killed,' she thought.

At her thought, her eyes spotted Marga and Sofia by the balcony grinning ear to ear. Serena frowned. Not again.

She wasn't going to let those two kill her a second time, she got the energy to struggle. But it was too late. As she almost hit the ground, her eyes closed shut.

Serena held her breath waiting for impact with the ground. Feeling warm hands wrapped around her waist, she found the courage to open her eyes. Her eyes glowed in happiness at being saved.

For a moment there, it felt like it was over for her just as everything was starting to feel right. She smiled, clearing her visage, she looked up to see the face of her savior. To her shock, she wasn't held by one but two men.

Right at both of her sides were Damian and Jax. Both held her tightly looking at her like she was their answered prayer. The pain was evident in their eyes of how frightened the situation had made them.

Serena's heart was in her heart. Caught up in her pain, she had forgotten that there were people who would miss her if anything were to happen to her. Damian had been the reason she felt good about having a second chance and in that she found someone else.

An old friend that she hadn't had the opportunity of reuniting with before.

"What were you thinking?" the two men scolded in unison.

Serena smiled. The genuine concern in their voices was comforting to her. The loneliness that had found its way to her heart before vanished. Replaced with a reminder that to Damian and Jax, she would always be their first choice.

The two men set her down on her feet but didn't let her go. Serena appreciated them being there at the right time, they saved her when she most needed it and she was grateful.

She turned to Damian, he had saved her a second time. The first time was when he showed her that among all that wanted her ruin and her demise, he was one in the crowd of millions that loved her to the end.

His love gave her a second chance a spark that she couldn't deny. And him being there for her tonight proved that truly, he was her guardian angel.

Serena wrapped her arms around Damian and embraced him tightly. A hug that she needed at that moment.

Jax let her go and moved back. He watched Damian hug her back, seeing that she was safe, he walked away. Hiding the pain in his eyes as he left her side.

Damian rested Serena's head on his shoulder. He didn't say anything, the words could wait. He had to make certain that she was okay first. Let her relax before interrogating her about what happened.

"Marga and Sofia," Serena uttered without thinking. "I think they pushes me off the balcony," she added still shocked from almost dying again.

Damian heard her. He remained calm and comforted her but deep down his blood was boiling. His hands ran over her hair brushing it gently resisting the urge to rush off and struggling with the two girls for daring to touch his queen.

Had it not been for Jax getting him out of the house to look for her. He feared they wouldn't have reached her in time, the man had a bad feeling that something wasn't right and at his words, Serena was in danger.

He could be an angel but when someone touches his heart, then he was ready to become the devil. Damian held Serena as though she was a fragile glass that would break if he were to hold her too tightly.

Serena felt at home in his embrace. Being with him felt like sunshine, safe and sound. A safe place to let down her defenses and have someone hold her. To not have to worry about her problems and just be carefree.

"I'm here," Damian assured her.
