(Morrigan’s P.O.V)
Well, that dinner went to hell in a handbasket. I thought to myself.
“You okay over there Luna?” Beta Killian asks.
We left Rian to his meeting with my father, so Beta Killian escorted me to my bedroom. This was the first time I really got a good look at my mate's right-hand man and I must say, if I wasn't mated to Rian I would totally jump his bones. He has shoulder-length shaggy blond hair with piercing blue eyes which complimented his angular face. He is a muscular man, like Rian, and just an inch or two shorter than him as well. From what I could tell, he was tattooed all over--or at least I assume he was, though all I could see were the tattoos on his hands and the side of his neck at this point.
“Yes, I’m fine, Beta Killian. Just stuck in my head a bit.” I replied.
“There’s no need to be formal with me, Luna, you can just call me Killian.” He smiles.
“Well then, if I can call you Killian, then I would like you to call me Morrigan,” I say, cheekily.
Killian chuckles and shakes his head, but agrees to be less formal with me when we are in a more casual setting. We reach my bedroom and Killian lets me know that he will be standing guard until Rian is done with the meeting. I needed to finish packing anyway, so it was a good thing that the dinner was ruined. I finish my packing and decide to jump in the shower. The hot water runs down my body, and it seems like I do all my best thinking in the shower, to be honest, but I began thinking about who could have been so hell-bent on coming out of the shadows. I knew there were dark Fae, we all did and knew that we needed to stay away from them because, for the most part, they had proven themselves untrustworthy. Is that who was behind this? As I continue to mull this over in my head, the water begins to turn cold, and I know that I need to get some rest.
I turn the water off, dry myself and wrap my hair up in a towel to help it dry. I walk out of the bathroom in just my birthday suit when Rian walks through the door. I didn’t even hear him knock. I let out a squeak and my face immediately turned tomato red. He didn’t notice me at first, his head was down, and he was obviously thinking, but once he heard me squeak, his head snapped up and his eyes drank in my body. His eyes darkened with lust and a low growl rumbled in his chest.
“So, I’m just gonna go get dressed now,” I say in a squeak, completely embarrassed.
“Why get dressed, Princess? Sleep just like that.” Rian said in a husky voice.
Winter starts purring at the thought of sleeping naked next to our mate and that purr emanates from MY chest. Rian closes his eyes, his nostrils flared, as he takes a deep breath at the same time as I feel my core begin to drip in arousal. Why won’t my brain connect with my feet to MOVE THE FUCK TO THE CLOSET!?!?!? So, I did the only thing my brain could think of doing at this moment. I struck up a conversation…naked.
“So, what happened in the meeting with my father, the elders, and the war counselors?” I asked, trying to play it cool, which was NOT working.
“You’re really going to stand there, naked, and have a conversation with me?” Rian asked, incredulously.
“Nope.” I say, popping the ‘p’ and bolting into my closet because my brain suddenly began functioning properly again.
I hear Rian chuckle behind me, bastard. I was too embarrassed to DO something to eliminate my embarrassment—running to the closet and getting dressed. The biggest facepalm moment of my life. Once I’m done getting clothes on, I take my hair out of the towel while walking out of the closet. I see Rian lying on his back on my bed with his eyes closed, and I just take a moment to admire him. I walk to the bathroom and grab my brush.
“So, are you going to tell me what happened in the meeting?” I ask again while brushing my hair out.
“Your father, along with the others in the meeting, believe that it was a threat from the dark Fae, specifically Calida and her right-hand man Silas,” he answered.
“What are the next steps then?”
“Well, your father is going to have someone look into how many dark Fae are still here, and then once that is figured out, how many of them are supportive of Calida and her efforts.”
“I don’t blame them for being upset, for being shunned. We were all taught that they were untrustworthy, whether we knew that to be true or not, we were told to stay away from them.”
“If they are/were using their gifts for the wrong reasons, then they aren’t trustworthy. Calida was a healer, and when she found her husband cheating on her, she was able to kill them by infecting them with some type of disease.”
“I understand that their gifts aren’t ‘good’ in the normal sense of the word, but it still doesn’t give us the right to banish these people for gifts that the Goddess Danu bestowed upon them.”
“What would you have us do then, mo grá?”
“At least talk to them first, understand what it is they want and offer them a compromise if they ask too much.”
“You know that’s not how this will play out. They will make their demands and if your father doesn’t give in to them, they will come after innocent Fae as well as your family to get what they want.” He states.
I knew he was right about that, but I still don’t think that people are inherently bad JUST because the gift bestowed upon them by the Goddess Danu is determined to be “bad”. I sighed, walking back into the bathroom to put my brush away.
“Let’s just go to bed. I’m tired and we have a long day of traveling tomorrow to return to your kingdom and pack.” I state, as I walk to the bed and crawl under the covers.
“It’s OUR kingdom princess. You are the future Supreme Luna of Máni.” He states with a huff.
“Fine. OUR kingdom. Just go to bed.” I say as I rolled over and scooted my body towards the middle of the bed.
I feel Rian get up off the bed and hear the shuffling of clothes, and apparently, we are having another sleepover tonight. I don’t like sharing my bed. Ugh whatever, I guess I have to get used to it. I feel the bed dip next to me as Rian gets under the covers, he pulls my body close to him and spoons me from behind.
“I know you are upset about how this is going to go but you have to understand that they have put your father in a no-win situation here.” He states quietly, and with that, he kisses my temple and nuzzles into my hair breathing in my scent.
It’s not long after this that I hear his breathing even out and I know that he is asleep.
Winter, what are we going to do about this? These dark Fae may not all be in on this plot, so innocent Fae are going to get killed.
I feel like there is way more to it than just dark Fae Mo. That fog in the dining room didn’t feel like Fae magic and the sounds of explosions weren’t Fae magic, you know that.
So then what do you think? Are they working with someone?
I think they are, and I think it may be the spell casters. The elves have powers of sorts and so do vampires, but the only other supernaturals to wield magic of any kind would be the spell casters.
Do you think we should talk to Prince Lysander since he is heir to Khisfire?
You know he’s your brother-in-law and you don’t have to call him by his title, right?
I know, but it’s weird, okay? Just leave me alone. I whine to Winter as she chuckles.
With the thoughts of rogue spell casters working with dark Fae dance in the back of my mind, I join Rian in the land of dreams hoping that everything goes smoothly for our return to Máni and that my conversation with Lysander will bear some type of hypothetical fruit to shed light on this situation.
