Bridgette Hamilton was a simple-minded, love-struck fool. Her world revolved around Damon Iguste of the Dark Moon Pack.
Every employee in the Moon branch company, wolf or human, seemed to be aware of this fact.
Yusria was the only one blind to it in her previous life. Because of this, the bimbo-looking Megan and gigolo Jeffery made use of the fact that she was Alpha Damon's secretary to instigate the simpleton and make her life at the Moon Electronics Company miserable.
Even until the day she was fired and kicked out of the company on charges of stealing from the alpha, Yusria had no idea why the other woman hated her so much as to falsely accuse her of stealing.
If it wasn't for the fact that she planned to leave the Setting Dawn Pack and wanted to secure a source of income in a new city for herself, then she would've never accepted the offer of a recommendation from the other.
And it was thanks to this that she finally saw through the masks of the so-called friends of Bridgette Hamilton. She saw the ones who had been fanning the flames of hatred from the shadows in her past life.
"Megan, Jeffery...You're lucky that I'm leaving Sunset City and don't want to attract others' attention before then. Otherwise, I would've made you shed tears of blood for daring to use me as a pawn in your scheme for power."
It didn't take a genius to figure out the gigolo was interested in Bridgette and the bimbo in the alpha. But the two's status, both in the company and the wolf pack, was a far cry from the individuals they were interested in.
Since they didn't possess the ability to openly pursue those they desired, they used Yusria as cannon fodder to keep one distracted while attracting the attention of the other.
"But...heh...this worked in my favor. I came to hand in my resignation letter today. Who would've thought I would secure a recommendation letter in a new city before even leaving? Is this a bonus of my rebirth?"
As she walked into the bustling company with a slight smile on her face, Yusria couldn't help but wonder in curiosity.
This incident had also occurred in her past life. But since she didn't have any intention to leave Sunset City and the Setting Dawn Pack back then, the events that followed unfolded in a completely different direction until she got fired.
A few months after that, she heard her adopted sister and her friends discussing the simpleton's death and the bimbo's marriage to the alpha.
Now that she was resigning two years ahead of her expulsion from the company, she wondered what Bridgette Hamilton's fate would be.
"Secretary Yusria, the chairman requested you to see him as soon as you check-in." The receptionist stood up and greeted her before handing a few folders to her.
"Is he alone?"
"No, vice-chairman Hamilton is with him."
"Thank you."
Yusria looked through the folders as she walked toward the elevator. For safety reasons, she preferred to enter the alpha's office when there were other individuals present.
Not that she doubted Chairman Damon's intentions, but as a wolfless female, she took it upon herself to always remain alert and never lower her guard around male wolves, especially the unmated ones.
With their hot-bloodedness and strong sexual desires, it would be far too easy for them, even the weakest omegas, to harm her if they so desired.
Of course, with Hamilton being Damon's Beta and all, he was more likely to serve her to the Alpha if he ordered him and they were anywhere else but Sunset City.
But the laws of the Eastern Lykan Emperor protected females, wolf or human, working in public companies headed by werewolves, and Yusria was only able to confidently work as the alpha's secretary because of them.
Alpha Damon's office was on the top floor of Moon Company. Facing both the western forest ranges and eastern human settlements, the building provided a perfect view of the wilderness and civilization that calmed her nerves.
Knock. Knock.
"Who is it?"
"Chairman Damon, I heard you asked for my immediate presence?"
"Yusria, is that you? Come in."
"Yes, chairman." Yusria slowly pushed the door open and professionally greeted.
"No need for the formality. Secretary Yusria, I wanted to get your opinion on the new electro project we are working on. What do you think about it?"
Seeing the slight change in the young alpha's demeanor, Beta Hamilton frowned in displeasure.
"Alpha Damon, why would you ask a mere secretary something like that? Her opinion is as insignificant as the opinion of an Omega." His sharp eyes rudely scrutinized her, disdain and scorn swirling within their depths as he glared at her.
He was aware of his daughter's feelings for the alpha. As such, any female that gained Damon's attention immediately entered his radar of suspicion.
"Beta Hamilton, Omegas are also a member of our pack. As a member of the Setting Dawn Pack, Yusria's opinions as a female matter more than those of humans." Alpha Damon coldly said.
The Beta's expression immediately turned ugly. His Alpha valued a weak female over him?
"Sire, vice-chairman Hamilton is right. I'm only a secretary and know nothing about the electro project. If that's the reason you wanted to see me, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint." Yusria awkwardly smiled.
She didn't take the alpha's amiable attitude to heart. After all, at the end of the day, she was just a lowly, negligible employee.
"Hmph! I told you she was worthless. But you gave this lowly wench more credit than she was worth." A dark growl filled with threat resounded from the side. Beta Hamilton was more than happy to ruthlessly stamp on the female he perceived as a lowly creature until she could no longer lift her head.
Unfortunately, Yusria's professional mask didn't crack a smudge under his gloating sneer.
"Oh...Is that so? I thought you were different, Yusria, daring enough to voice your opinions no matter who you faced. But it seems I was wrong...You're just like everyone else, weak and submissive. You can leave." Alpha Damon dejectedly ran a hand through his short ash blonde hair and dismissively waved her away.
The disappointment in his voice was hard to mask.
But Yusria didn't care. If she was still her past self, then she would've been trembling in apprehension by now, wondering if she would be fired or not. After all, her adopted mother eagerly waited for her salary to cover her gambling debts.
But not today.
Today would be her last day in Moon Company, so why would she care about the opinions of an entitled alpha?
"Yes, Chairman. These are the documents for your afternoon and evening meetings."
Setting the stack of files before him, she slightly bowed and backed away from the room.
"Alpha, no need to be disappointed. The female might be part of the Setting Dawn Pack, but I heard somewhere that she's no shifter. Even if she gave her opinion, I doubt it would pertain to the rest of our she-wolves."
"She can't shift? Are you sure about this...?"
The soundproofing of the room wasn't one of the best and as she walked away, the two wolves' conversation entered Yusria's ears. She knew Hamilton looked down on her. Aside from the fact that he loved his daughter, he hated the guts of all low-blood females.
She could sense that in the Beta's eyes, Omega she-wolves and those who couldn't shift only had one purpose in life, which was to please the high-ranking males as sex slaves or punching bags.
Slightly shaking her head, she entered her personal office and began filing in her unused sick pay for the entire year. She needed all the money she could get.
Once she submitted that application, she wrote up her resignation letter and used a white lie as an excuse to quit. She directly submitted this to the chairman's personal email.
It was the only way she would be able to leave Moon company without turning in a two-week notice.
Bang!
"The recommendation. Look at it and let me know if you would like me to change anything. If you're satisfied with it, hand in your resignation." Bridgette Hamilton crossed her arms and haughtily looked down at her from above.
From her overbearing stance, one would mistake her as the owner of the company, when she was, in fact, just another employee. One whose status was even lower than hers in the company.
Swiveling her chair around, Yusria ignored the she-wolf, picked up the paper, and leaned back in her chair. A small smile spread across her lips when her eyes reached the end.
"Sigh. You really want me gone, huh...? I never knew you thought so highly of me." Truly! Who would've known Bridgette Hamilton had it in her to write nice things about someone else? The girl barely acknowledged anyone aside from Alpha Damon.
"Where did this letter of hire come from? I didn't even go through an interview yet?"
"I have connections. So? Are you leaving or not?"
Her violet eyes filled with amusement as Yusria smirked at the privileged female.
Sigh. It must be great to be the daughter of a powerful Beta...
"I'll leave, I'll leave. You made such a great effort to get rid of me. Wouldn't I just be digging my own grave if I stay behind after this?"
She already accomplished what she came to do at the company. Now that she even had a letter of hire and a recommendation letter from Bridgette Hamilton, Yusria felt even more confident about her decision.
In the face of the astonished and confused she-wolf, she quickly packed up her little belongings and cleared her work desk.
"You're leaving? Just like that?" Bridgette asked disbelievingly.
She didn't expect it to be so easy to get rid of the threat named Yusria. After all, Megan and Jeffery were certain the other was only putting on an act. So was this another one of her acts?
Bridgette hated to admit it, but even with her over-washed clothes and unkempt hair, Yusria carried a pure and enchanting aura around her that was hard to ignore for even a female like her.
She narrowed her eyes and stared warily at the other.
Whatever she was planning, Bridgette vowed to not fall for her scheme!
"Yes, I'm leaving. Bridgette Hamilton, it was nice knowing you and good luck with your life. I hope all your heart's desires will come true."
Yusria sincerely clapped the dazed woman on the shoulder and walked past her without a backward glance.
She didn't want to get revenge on the she-wolf for her last life's misery. The fake friends she had on her side would more than accomplish that task for her.
As for Yusria, she was more than happy to leave Moon company with a letter of hire and an exceptional recommendation.
Because if she remembered correctly, the relationship between her and her adopted sister took a turn for the worse on the night of her coming of age ceremony.
