Chapter 78

After eating the food and drinking some wine, I get out of my room and get downstairs, where I walk to the receptionist.

"Hello!"

"Ah, Good Afternoon, sir. How is lunch?"

"Fantastic. The beef is tender and delicious."

"I'm glad you like it. What can I do for you?"

"I want to ask where the rune shop is."

"Ah, of course. We have two rune shops in this city. We have one to the east, it was a smaller rune shop with few selections, but they sold a cheaper product. When you get out of here, follow the road to the right, and you will find the shop at the end of the road. The other shop is to the north. Just follow the small road to the left of the inn until you meet a clearing. The building in front of you is the rune shop."

Yup. Just like in the game but with a slight difference. I thank her and walk out of the inn. After getting out, I go to the left and follow the road. When I find the small road, I take it.

I follow it for a minute and see a massive building at the end of the road. I read the sign above the building and nodded. I quickly get inside the building and see three Rune Mistresses serving the customer.

One of them looks at me and says.

"Welcome! Can you wait for a moment? We will serve you in a minute."

"Of course."

I look around and notice a lot of runes being shown.

That is quite a selection. If not for Jeanne's teaching, I want them all on me. However, she suggested that I not be greedy. Attach a maximum of three runes every month. That is what she said, and I will listen to her.

And that includes upgrading. That means I will take Thunder Rune to upgrade my Lightning Rune and Flowing Rune to upgrade my Water Rune. That leaves me with only one more slot for today's attachment.

Well, I guess I can practice attaching runes from the book Jeane prepared for me. I have yet to read it because I'm busy and don't have free time to read them. However, it was for later use. For now, I need to decide what I need to attach.

I already have Lightning, Water, Star, Dawn, Twilight, and Sun Rune.

A lightning rune is a rune that is powerful in a single target enemy. Water Rune is a powerful support but a little damaging spell. Star rune is a destructive rune with a support passive ability that lets me read the flow of a fight and predict the future for a little bit. Sadly, it takes a good amount of mana to use.

Dawn Rune is a support and cleansing type of rune. Twilight Rune is an AOE and also a debuffer, the opposite of Dawn Rune. Sun rune is a combination of both. After they awaken, I get the knowledge of how powerful the Sun Rune is, and I'm terrified of its full power.

Currently, I can only use a small portion of its power, which can destroy a village in a single attack. Not only that, I can resurrect someone who just died at maximum an hour ago. I can increase the limit of the time and can even resurrect someone who died a decade ago when I can use fifty percent of Sun Rune power.

I already have a complete set of runes and don't need any more runes, to be honest. However, I'm a collector. I like to collect rare things, and there are many rare things here.

And I can only attach one of them. Urgh. It is like when I want to buy two limited edition merch but only have the money to buy one. It's hurting my heart a little bit.

"Excuse me, sir."

I snap from my thoughts and look at one of the Rune Mistresses smiling at me.

"We are ready to receive you."

"Ah, yes. Sorry about that."

"No problem, sir. This way, please."

I nod my head and sit on the chair she prepared for me. I take the seat.

"What can we do for you, sir? Buying? Selling? Attaching a rune?"

"Buying and attaching."

"Of course. Do you need to see our catalog? Or do you already have the rune in mind?"

"I want an upgrade."

"Upgrading! That is easy enough. What kind of rune?"

"Thunder and Flowing."

"Ah, Lightning and Water. Very well. One Thunder Rune is seven hundred thousand coins, and Flowing Rune is five hundred thousand and seven hundred. Please place the money inside this basket, and we will start the upgrading."

"Pay first, huh?"

I pour the money inside the basket while asking the question.

"Yes. We have a couple of services and dash this year and decided to change a policy. Usually, our master is with us and creates a barrier to make sure no one can run away without paying, but he is currently on a journey and will be back two years from now on."

"I see. Anyway, that is the money."

Seeing the number on top of the basket, she nods and takes it to the backroom. I wait for a minute and see she is back with two orbs in her hands. One of them is bright yellow, and the other is dark blue. Both of them shine with power.

"Sorry for the wait. These are the Thunder Rune and the Flowing Rune. Do you want to check them first?"

"No. I can feel mana coming from the rune."

"I see! You are a mage, huh?"

"I have yet to earn that title. I'm still a journeyman."

"Ah, of course. I'm sorry. However, if you can feel the mana coming from rune, that means you have fine control over the mana around you. You will make a great mage, sir."

"Thank you."

"Let's get started, shall we?"

I nod my head and let her do what she needs to do. She massages my hand for a moment and controls the mana in the air to check the rune pathway inside my body. After a few seconds, she takes the rune and places it on my hand.

"Impressive. Your connection to lightning and water runes is very impressive."

"Thank you."

She nods and starts to manipulate the mana from the rune. With my current mana control, I can see it. I can see the string made of mana connecting me and the rune in the Rune Mistress' hand.

After a minute, I can feel the connection with the Thunder Rune and get new knowledge. I get a new spell, and now I know the new limit of my lightning control. Before, I could only use a small part of lightning. Now I can release half the power of natural lightning in exchange for a good chunk of mana.

I can now release about 150 million volt bolts of lightning.

Not only that, but I also get a massive resistance to any lightning attack. I will have complete immunity to all weak lightning attacks.

"And now for the Flowing Rune."

Just like the Thunder Rune, it takes her a minute to attach the rune to my body. After a minute, I can feel a new power coursing through me. A new knowledge appears inside my head: the limit of my water control has increased; I can now turn water into ice in a second and heal a minor injury without using my spell. Neat.

"And done! You are a customer with the most affinity to lightning and water rune, sir. Usually, it takes me five minutes, but each rune only takes a minute."

I smile at her and nod my head.

"Anyway, anything else we can do, sir? If there is nothing else, please deposit two thousand coins inside the basket for the service."

"Ah, I also want to buy more runes, please."

"Of course! In their Orbs form, correct? Because I don't recommend attaching more runes into your body. Maybe one more but I don't recommend more than one."

"Hmmm, I guess I want one more rune to be attached to my body. Can I ask for the rarest rune you have?"

"Of course!"

She smiles brightly at me and shows me a piece of paper.

"We have three of them! The first one is the Darkness rune, the second one is the Resurrection rune, and the last one is the Blue Gate rune."

Ah, those runes, huh? I know them. Darkness Rune is the child of Rune of Life and Death. The Darkness rune lets the user cast a spell with many instant death effects. Resurrection Rune is a rune that deals a lot of damage to the undead and gives a good amount of support spells. The Blue Gate rune is a rune that lets me summon monsters from other worlds and attack my enemy. It is an attack and support combo that lends more to a damaging rune.

"I want to attach Darkness Rune on my body and take the other. I also want at least a dozen for each rune you have in your store."

She blinks for a second and says.

"It will cost you a lot of money, you know?"

I smile at her as I know I have more than billions of Potch in my inventory from the constant monster hunting. So, yeah. I don't have any shortage of money.

"Don't worry about money. I will pay for it."

"I see. We easily can supply you with a dozen of basic runes like lightning, water, fire, wind and earth rune but we cannot sell you more than three rare runes like Rage, Thunder, Cyclone, Flowing and Mother Earth rune."

I nod my head and say.

"Sure. Three for each type. How many types of runes do you have?"

"A lot. We have the upgraded version of the basic rune and something like Turtle Rune, Speed Rune, Alert Rune, and Fire Sealing Rune. You can only take three of them each."

"Of course. How much for all of them?"

She takes out a piece of paper and starts calculating all the money needed to pay them. After a minute of writing, she looks at me and pushes the paper to me.

"Twelve million seven hundred thousand Potch, sir. Are you sure you can pay them, sir?"

I smile at her and start pouring a lot of gold coins inside the basket near me. Slowly but surely, a small mountain of gold appears from all the gold coins I pour. My smile gets even bigger when I see her dropping her jaw.

"Of course. Only thirteen million, right?"

I said I was richer than the royal family to Sialeeds; I'm not lying.
