The Meeting 2

"Oh dear, I'm sorry. Here, have some water." Mason's grandmother offered Ava a glass of water with one hand as she gently rubbed her back with the other.

Ava had a petrified look on her face as she coughed. Were these people expecting her to bear them great-grandchildren? She isn't even going to be married to their grandson for up to two weeks before they get a divorce. If only they knew. She looked at Mason from the corner of her eyes and she could see him mouthing, "I'm sorry," to her.

"Are you all right? Do you need more water?" Mason's grandmother asked, her voice laced with genuine concern as she continued to gently rub Ava's back.

"I'm okay now, thank you," Ava responded.

"You should allow the poor girl a moment of a breather, they just got married," her husband said to her. "You are scaring her."

"I didn't mean to scare her. I was only saying my mind," she turned to look at Ava, I must have scared you, I'm sorry."
