The first time Layla had noticed it, she thought probably Ava was not in a good mood that day, but when Ava barely spoke a word to her the following day in class, and the day after, Layla finally decided to confront Ava about it. Ava insisted that she was not avoiding Layla.

"The pressure of the coming exam is getting to me," Ava had said as an excuse for her behaviour.

Layla could tell Ava's change of attitude towards her had nothing to do with their coming exams. Ava was avoiding her for a reason. And Layla felt hurt that Ava won't tell her what it is. If it's something she did wrong, so she could apologize.
