Second Chance

Diane stood at the door of her daughter's bedroom feeling sad as she watched her daughter get ready to be taken to rehab.

"Did you remember to pack your head warmer? It will get cold at some point while you are there," she said in a low tone.

"I have packed everything that I will be needing," Emily replied to her mother in a curt tone as she sat on her bed to put on her shoes.

Diane released a breath. "Emily, I'm sorry." She paused. "It's been a month already, surely you can't be mad at me forever," she said in a frustrated tone.

"Emily please…"

"What do you want from me, mother? What is it that you want from me? For us to hug and pretend like you didn't do what you did?" Emily snapped.

"What I did was wrong, I know that and I'm sorry that I didn't tell you the truth."

"24 years mother, 24 years, you lied to me about who my biological father was. All those years you lied to us all."
