Vero has been training for half a month now. He can now shoot a moving target consistently, and he has just finished the basic CQC training.
The only thing that the A.I. has taught in CQC is a self-defense technique and how to unarm your opponent. The only thing left now is proof that he has completed the course.
[Congratulations! Now the only thing left is a test to put all you have learned into practice. You'll be facing a ruin tracker on our Dumo ruin terrain. Your objective is to exterminate it and survive. We'll start once you're ready.]
The room changes to simulate a Dunmo ruin outside the wall. This place brings back a memory of him being chewed by the ruin tracker.
Vero shudders in fear of this place.
[Don't worry, the subject won't die from a simulation.]
"Thank you... I'm ready now." That calmed him down a bit.
[Affirmitive... The test will start in 3...2...1... start!]
The presence of the A.I. disappears, leaving Velo in the ruin alone. This time with an old-world gun.
Even if it's not a real one, it gave him a sense of security.
A wind blows by, carrying a speck of dust over the ruin, making Vero impressed by how real this simulation room is.
'No matter how much I experience this, I can't get used to it.' Vero has been here for a month and a half, but their technology always amazes him.
'Let's just ask the A.I. when I finish this test. '
He decides to go with a plan he used earlier when he ventured out on his own. He enters the one nearby building and starts to pass through the floor up to a certain height. He can't go further than this because of the restrictions of the building that require identification.
While ascending the floor, he also spots his target walking around and surveying the area. The white creature is still as imposing as ever, even from afar.
'Can I really kill that thing?' Vero shakes his head. 'The A.I. wouldn't give an impossible task.'
He pulls himself together and sets up at the building's window. The gun he's using is an old-world sniper. Its white, sleek design can be recognized right away, even if you're just a slum kid. The old-world aesthetic really stands out in this era.
With the gun set up, Vero checked if he had anything more to do. The A.I. doesn't give much to work with. He only got the rifle and a sniper. They had no fancy gadgets or lethal traps for him to use. The A.I. stated that if they gave him something like that, this wouldn't be a shooting test.
Vero thinks that makes sense and goes with it.
He looks through a square scope that pops up like an information terminal. It displays the floor material and the distance that the crosshair is pointing at. It also calculates how much the bullet penetrates for you.
This thing almost does everything for you. The only thing that is required is to aim and shoot. The A.I. says that there's even an auto shooting gun that has a tracking bullet that follows the target. It blows his mind to think of how advanced the old world was.
'I wonder how the world old is....'
He shakes his head and brushes off the idea. He would've been dead by now if he were in the old world.
While he was sitting up, the ruin tracker disappeared from his vision. He assumes that it has wandered off somewhere and waits patiently for it to appear again.
'There it is.' A while later, his target wanders to the same spot again. Vero sucks in his breath and aims at its head.
Bang!
He pulls the trigger and sends a high penetration sniper bullet right into a wall. The shot misses its target by an inch.
'What!?'
Vero is confused. He clearly hit the shot, but at the last second, the ruin tracker head moved out of the bullet trajectory mid-flight. Vero shot another one aiming for its body, but this time the ruin tracker dodged it with more movement.
Now that he shot it twice, the ruin tracker can sense his position and run right at him. Vero shot another 2 bullets, but the result was the same as before.
'This thing can dodge a sniper bullet!?'
Vero couldn't imagine himself doing that at all. If he was in the ruin tracker position, he would have died from the first shot.
Closing in on Vero's position, the creature tries to climb up his building. Velo fired one last sniper bullet in the hopes of taking out the monster, but lady luck was not on his side today. The bullet scraped the monster's beak, missing the head by an inch again.
Vero backs up and grabs his assault rifle, ready to fight it off at close range. Second, later his target reaches him. Breaking in through the big glass window. It lunch at him the moment that it sees him.
Bang!
In mid air, the creature has no choice but to take an assault rifle shot. Vero manages to get one off while rolling away to safety. The ruin tracker crashes into a wall, making a visible dent.
While it was recovering, he shot its leg off with a full magazine of bullets. Losing a leg didn't stop the ruin tracker from pursuing Vero. It charges right at him again, even if it's missing a leg.
Vero takes another roll to reload his magazine and the ruin tracker crashes into the wall again. But this time, due to losing its leg, the crash didn't make the creature stunned.
"Sh*t" This made the young boy miscalculate the time he had for the reload.
Not letting this opportunity go, the ruin tracker jumps at him from a close range.
Vero finishes his reload and fires the shot randomly in panic while the ruin tracker's mouth is wide open trying to swallow him.
'Not this again!' Vero shuddered in fear of another pain that he would receive from this. completely forgot that this is only a simulation.
Luckily, the shot that he randomly fired through the inside of the ruin tracker killed it instantly. but the attack still has the full force of the monster.
Its body crashes into Vero's, killing him along with it.
