Charles Rivers
(A few months ago, when Jake was still training.)
I woke up to my alarm like I always do, and see the most beautiful women sleeping next to me. My beloved wife Scarlett.
This year we will be our 5th year anniversary and it makes me extremely happy to be spending my life with her.
I get out of bed and Scarlett mumbles something in her sleep. I fix the blanket and blow her a kiss. I head towards the bathroom to do my daily morning ritual.
After taking my morning shower I go back to my room and see Scarlett still sleeping. I leave her alone and collect my things I'll need for the day and head towards my kitchen to make breakfast for us.
I pull out the ingredients from the fridge and make something simple for the both of us. The smell must have woke Scarlett because she shuffled into the kitchen still in her pyjamas yawning.
I give her a kiss and a hug good morning and she returns it with extra love. I smile and bring over breakfast and we talk about what we're planning to do for the day.
She gives me a smile and tells me that she will be spending the day with Aki for a girls day. I give her my all my support and tell her that since she's going to be spending the day with Aki I'll spend the day with Jake.
Scarletts face lights up, happy that I have a male friend to spend time with. I say that it's embarrassing that she points it out and she just laughs.
We continue to eat our meal in piece as we enjoy each other's company. I finish my meal first and start cleaning up my dishes by putting them in the sink and washing them.
I glare at the clock realizing what time it is, I scramble to get all my stuff and head out the door. I give Scarlett a kiss goodbye and tell her I'll see her later.
Closing the door behind me I get moving to the elevator and step inside pressing the bottom floor button.
Since I live on the fifth floor it takes the elevator a little while to move through all the floors.
I feel a bit of a bounce and the door opens and I walk out into the lobby of my building. I leave through the main door and start my day right.
The sun is beating down upon me and already starting to make me sweat a little. I look up and see not a cloud in the sky. I turn right and walk toward the morgue that I own and run with Scarlett.
I open the lock to the door and walk right on in. Raising my voice I ask Jake if he's here, but I didn't get a response. Hmmmm, I guess he might be downstairs in the training room.
I go downstairs past the freezer and makeup room and go to the end of the hall. I slowly open the door at the end and look inside to see Jake going through the basics of what Aki taught to him.
He was showing overwhelming focus on each movement he made. Watching him made me feel quite impressed with the amount of work he put into his training. I close the door and head back upstairs to grab some water for him.
I bring it to him but this time I push the door open loudly letting Jake know I'm here. He turns towards me and gives me a brief smile. I toss over the water and he catches it and thanks me for bringing it to him.
After finishing his water he asked if I wanted to train with him, I let out a laugh and said it's not going to be possible. He shrugs his shoulder likely knowing what I was going to say.
After a bit of back and forth I ask him a question that was weighing on my mind. "Why don't you ever tell Aki how much you train. Even after going at it with her for days on end, you still come down here and train."
He looks me in the eyes and I watch his calming mix of black and blue eyes. "Aki has been doing her job as an apostle for years. If I could close out gap by working for even one more day then it's time we'll spent in my opinion." I look at him with awe.
"I guess I could understand where you're coming from buddy. So let's give you a break for once. Come spend the day with me I'll promise you will have a good time." He seemed hesitant so I pushed a little harder. "You are going to get tired sooner or later doing this everyday. So come with me for the day and have a little fun."
He looked away then looked back into my eyes and I saw a fire burning within them. "Just for today, alright?" I give him and pat on the shoulder and a good laugh, then tell him to shower because he doesn't smell that pleasant right now.
He looked down embarrassed and quickly went to take a shower. I leave the training room and head back upstairs and wait for Jake to finish.
He comes out of the bathroom wearing jeans and a plain while tee-shirt with a logo across it saying, "Michael Suxx" I ask him where he possibly found a shirt like that.
He laughed and said that he had it personally made to annoy Michael. He then look up at the sky and put on a sly grin. I guess michael doesn't appreciate the shirt as much as Jake did.
They both bicker a bit and I tell Jake that it's time to go. He agreed and left the morgue with me. I put up the sign saying we're closed and we get a move on.
Walking through the city streets we don't talk about anything especially important, just enjoying the bro time.
We spend the day together relaxing and enjoying the different sights throughout the city and stopping anywhere that peaks out interest.
After spending most of the day outside we head back to the morgue to relax. Jake talks about his childhood and how he spent it in a really old town. "If I had to describe it, it would be like walking into a old painting, where nothing ever changes about it. Like the world doesn't move when you're there."
I look at him impressed. "I guess all of us have to go and take a trip there one of these days huh."
He looked a little bit more nervous than before, probably feeling a little embarrassed losing himself like that.
We both laugh and continue to walk back to the morgue. When we get there I drop Jake off and tell him not to push himself. "God mom I won't." Jake laughs as he heads into his bedroom.
I let out a wry smile and a quiet sigh. I head back home and walk into my apartment building entering the elevator and clicking the button to my floor.
I feel the weightless feeling again as the elevator moves up. The door opens and I walk to my door and unlock it, opening it up.
I enter the living room and see Scarlett sitting down reading with a cup of tea. "Welcome back Darling." I give her a smile and relax on the couch.
We talk about our days and what we did. I tell Scarlett that Jake and me didn't do anything that special just spent time together. Scarlett said mostly the same thing about Aki and her.
I grab a book and start reading just like Scarlett's doing and I feel calm having Scarlett right next to me.
"This was quite a fun day." Scarlett looks over at me and gives me the same smile I fell in love with.
