Chapter 1 The Arranger

"Whoosh."

The hardcover notebook was flipped open.

The writing densely covered the pages, the content at the beginning was very clear and the handwriting was neat, but as it went further, the content became more chaotic, and the handwriting grew increasingly sloppy.

It seemed as if the author's mental state was deteriorating.

Meng Yuan looked at the first page.

"Return Order's Notes"

"The true face of this world is not as friendly, warm, and wonderful as it seems.

"Since the Ancient Times, mankind has been waging a cruel war against demons, and although humans had been victorious, the demons were not completely eradicated.

"They hide within the folds of time past, always ready to make their return!

"They will try everything to twist people's memories of history, and once the opportunity arises, they will use specific historical moments as stepping stones to invade our world.

"As a Return Order, I must do everything in my power to prevent this from happening!"

Having read the first page, Meng Yuan said with a hint of sympathy, "Maybe I can guess what led to the original owner's death.

"Living in such severe delusions for a long time, it's indeed hard to maintain a healthy mental state.

"Rest easy, brother, I'll live the rest of your life for you. I can't promise riches and honor, but I'll try to at least die a good death."

Yes, Meng Yuan was a transmigrator; he had just reluctantly bid farewell to his past life and was coming to terms with the fact that he had transmigrated.

After arriving, Meng Yuan had already gained some understanding of his current situation.

This world looked very similar to his previous life, but the biggest difference lay in its completely different history: dynasties, historical figures, and major events had all become elusive and ambiguous.

When he discovered this, Meng Yuan tried to learn some of this world's history, but he quickly went from being a novice to giving up altogether.

He consoled himself that it was only the history of this world he didn't know; aside from sometimes feeling like an illiterate, it didn't seem to cause much harm.

Additionally, virtual reality gaming in this world had developed rapidly, and technology that could connect consciousness to virtual reality with about 50% realism had already emerged.

For Meng Yuan, a gaming enthusiast, this was great news. The only problem was that the original owner didn't have such gaming equipment at home, so he hadn't had the chance to experience it.

This puzzled Meng Yuan; given that the original owner's living conditions seemed quite good, and it didn't appear he was short on money, why had he not bought a gaming helmet to play with?

Meng Yuan hadn't inherited the original owner's memories, but it was not a big deal.

Because the original owner was a loner, living alone without family or friends, and virtually no social ties. He even died in his home without anyone noticing for a whole day.

It was fortunate that Meng Yuan's transmigration was timely, otherwise, the body might have decomposed.

And judging from this notebook, the original owner probably had severe delusions, so suicide didn't seem out of the question.

Meng Yuan flipped to the last page of the notebook.

The writing here was a sloppy mess; he could only make out parts of it sporadically.

"As a Return Order, my power alone is too weak...

"The demons have become completely different from before...

"...The situation is dire, I must let everyone know!

"Using the Return Order's abilities, tomorrow I'll post the content of the notebook to all the major news websites and social media headlines around the world...

"I don't know if this will be of any use... but it seems, I have no other choice..."

The notebook ended there, as if the original owner's sanity was on the brink of collapse.

Meng Yuan put the notebook away and returned it to where it belonged.

He didn't take it seriously; what was recorded in the notebook was too bizarre and akin to the delusions of a mental patient.

But just then, his phone "dinged" with a message—it was a news alert.

Meng Yuan glanced at it, and it seemed to be a short message.

"Hm?"

He hadn't paid it much mind, but upon opening and carefully reading it, his expression instantly stiffened.

Because this was exactly the content of the first page of the "Return Order's Notes"!

Only now, these contents were posted on the homepage of Tomorrow's Headlines, the largest news app in the country, and notifications had been sent to all users!

Meng Yuan was dumbfounded, and he even began to suspect whether he, like the original owner, had also contracted a mental illness.

The likelihood wasn't low, after all; he was using the same body as the original owner, and if there was some kind of disease affecting the brain, the chances of a relapse were significant.

He opened several other news websites and social media platforms.

Weibo, Zhihu, Tieba, Terminal Chinese Network...

This notebook entry had indeed topped the hot search lists of all major websites!

Meng Yuan refreshed the page in bewilderment, and comments began to stream in rapidly!

The heat generated by super channel recommendations across all popular sites was truly terrifying.

"What's this nonsense, is there a system bug? Why is this thing topping the hot search?"

"Return Order's Notes? Such a plot point would flop even in the most brainless of novels, wouldn't it?"

"Today isn't April Fool's, why are all the websites playing this kind of joke with the entire nation?"

"Not just the nation, but the entire world. I've checked, and major foreign sites are also displaying it! It's just that foreigners can't understand Chinese and are still translating."

"Is this some kind of joke hacked up by a bored hacker? This is way out of line!"

Many people had already begun to speculate who wrote this content and what the intentions behind it could be.
